February 2023, a 4-night, 5-day winter camper journey in Hokkaido. Let’s check out the spots we visited this time. Lake Shikaribetsu Kotan Tokachi River Hot Spring “Sairenka” Lake Akan Panoramic Bihoro Pass Lake Kussharo, Ikuno Hot Springs Shiretoko, Frepe Falls Shiretoko, Oshinkoshin Falls Shiretoko, Drift Ice Walk -26°C Lake Chimekupu Smelt Fishing
Abashiri, Drift Ice Cruise Lake Kussharo, Teshio River Bridge And now, the highlight reel of our winter Hokkaido trip begins! Enjoy till the end. Finally, the moment has arrived!!! A few hours earlier, on February 13th, Sapporo, Hokkaido. Beautiful weather today. The road conditions are looking good too. Really?
You’ve figured it out already, in just one day? Looking forward to today, Kozu. Wonder what kind of scenery awaits. Alright, let’s move from here and get on the road. Moving from Sapporo to Chitose. This half-frozen road might be tricky to walk on. Yeah, it sure is. Kozu, it’s coming into view.
I can see a few camper vans too. Really? Could that be ours? The big gas station. It’s inside the gas station. Is this it? Exciting! Looking forward to it, Kozu. Reception begins in the newly renovated, clean interior. Our support for this trip comes from Mr. Taira, our contact person.
(Mr. Taira) One thing you need to be careful about is (Mr. Taira) the parking lot and areas with roofs like this. (Mr. Taira) It’s easy to bump into things. (Mr. Taira) Your vehicle is almost new, with no scratches. Almost new… (Mr. Taira) I’ll explain this later, but
(Mr. Taira) this is for external charging. I see. (Mr. Taira) Now, this one here, I’ll open it. (Mr. Taira) It’s a storage compartment. On the outside? Nice. How do you feel right now? Excited, thrilled. The dreamy camper van. Amazing… I see. (Mr. Taira) Basically, it’s a storage space.
(Mr. Taira) The water drainage tank is here. (Mr. Taira) You probably won’t need to use it, but (Mr. Taira) for things like the jack or fixing a flat tire. (Mr. Taira) Shall we go inside the car? Certainly, please. (Mr. Taira) Shoes off inside the car, please. (Mr. Taira) Our selling point is
(Mr. Taira) having a clean and new car. (Mr. Taira) It’s super clean, almost like a new car. So clean, almost new. (Mr. Taira) In Chitose city and elsewhere, (Mr. Taira) there are other camper van rentals, (Mr. Taira) but our interiors are cleaner (Mr. Taira) and the newness is well-received. Thank you very much.
How do you feel now? Fantastic! That’s it, everyone! (Laughs) Well, good job! (Laughs) Thank you. Let’s share the comfortable Hokkaido journey with many people. We’ll have a comfortable road trip. (Mr. Taira) Enjoy your time. Thank you. Exciting, thrilling. It’s high, Kozu. It’s high, huh? Amazing! Incredible. Sleeping and driving are separate, you know.
Getting nervous. What should I do? I’m getting too excited. You better be careful. Accidents happen especially in moments like this. Be cautious of the height. Alright, here I go! (Mr. Taira) Well then, take care. Thank you. Thank you! It’s good that Mr. Taira, the first camper van specialist, was there. Nervous silence… (Laughs)
The start of a 4-night, 5-day winter trip to Hokkaido in a camper van! Can you believe it? Suddenly decided, around last Tuesday or Wednesday, the Hokkaido camper van journey has begun! Thank you. The roads are still melting nicely, making for a good start. We’ll drive without speeding. Safe driving, here we go.
Sudden braking, sudden acceleration, sudden turns, not good. Gotta be careful. Also, the height. Yes, the height is the most important. And, also, the back. You have to be careful. We have to drive and get used to it. Let’s gain experience on slightly safer roads. Both nervous, huh? (Laughs) Because we’re nervous.
We’re using the expressway today. After all, time is limited. Also, there’s the Hokkaido Smartphone Stamp Rally. There are still stamps on the expressway. Let’s go get them. Is the height restriction okay? If we’re out on the expressway, we’re out for everything. The height restriction is the scariest. Scary, isn’t it? The height restriction.
Also, when backing up, it’s quite something to show the scene of an accident… With the tension at its peak, I forgot to explain where we’re going. I’ll realize it later, so please bear with me a little longer. Well, safe driving! Safe driving is all I ask. Even in winter on Hokkaido’s expressway,
Is it 80 kilometers per hour? The limit. I wonder. It depends on the road conditions. Be flexible. If it’s whiteout conditions, It’s dangerous. Keep a proper distance between cars, And maintain a speed of 60 to 70. Oh, but it said 80 kilometers earlier. It can’t be too slow either.
The staff from the camper van rental earlier was really nice, very friendly. They were super friendly. It was great that they allowed us to film. And they even gave permission for their faces to be shown. A person with a wonderful smile. They laughed with a cute “Ha, ha, ha!”
But, these are also in Sendai and Tokyo. Oh, it seems so. Yes, that’s right. It seems a new one recently opened in Tokyo. Mom and Dad have been saying for a while that they want to take them to Kinosaki Onsen. Dreams are really expanding.
It would be great to show filial piety with a camper van. It would be the best! I never thought Mom and Dad would dream of going to Kinosaki Onsen in a camper van. I haven’t even dreamed of it myself. Yeah, really. I’m glad, truly.
We were able to borrow this fantastic camper van at the last minute, and we’re truly grateful to this store, especially since there were distance restrictions and it wasn’t available for winter operation. Wow. The entire area has turned into a snowy landscape. After driving a bit, we’re leaving the city behind.
I haven’t mentioned today’s destination yet. Oh, right. Today, it’s one of the places we most wanted to visit in winter in Hokkaido. We want to go to Lake Zenibako. I’ve really wanted to go there for a long time. Kozu has been saying that, right? He’s been saying that even before entering Hokkaido.
The town with Lake Zenibako has a very good weather forecast today. But! It seems we’ll be a bit late for the arrival. It might be around evening. But it looks beautiful at night too. It seems to be lit up. Until around 8 o’clock, right?
On weekends, the bar is open until around 8 o’clock, and they have performances. It’s my first time in winter in Hokkaido, and it’s also my first time on the highway. Certainly, it’s my first time on the highway in Hokkaido. It’s well maintained. It’s amazing that the infrastructure is so well developed. It’s wonderful.
You can also do sightseeing, and logistics doesn’t stop. It’s really appreciated. I’m alive with the support of many people. The view is high, and the scenery is good because the car is high. It’s nice, isn’t it? MOCO probably can’t see much of the snowy landscape right now, haha.
I never thought I would come to winter in Hokkaido in my life. Really, that’s true. That really boosts the excitement. And with such an amazing partner. Which one is it? The camping car? Me? The camping car, haha. The best partner (the camping car) and the partner who really drags us down, haha.
The best partner and the best buddy. No doubt, Buddy is the most correct. Because we’ve packed in what we wanted to do in winter in Hokkaido for these five days. Really, that’s it. The fact that the sleeping environment is set up is a big deal. And it’s diesel.
It’s the same as the Hiace. So maybe it’s a bit forgiving. The mileage doesn’t seem to be that great, though. The mileage is probably around 9 kilometers per liter, I guess? Not great. MOCO always gets around 16 kilometers per liter. If you go by MOCO’s sense, you’ll have a hard time.
That’s why you have to refuel carefully. When it comes to Hokkaido, the timing of refueling is crucial. Beautiful. Yeah, it really feels like “The Hokkaido.” It’s amazing over here too. In terms of location, are we around Yubari? For some reason, we’re stopping at this parking area.
Alright, let’s go for the Hokkaido Stamp Rally. Oh, it turned into a brown bear. Finally reached 250. Yeah, 250. Alright, shall we go? Is everyone doing well? To the viewers we met in Hokkaido,
I wish I could have had more time to meet and greet, but since these five days are about going our own way, Shall we exit the expressway at Tokachi Shimizu? I’ll take the expressway exit at Tokachi Shimizu on the fifth day, as we’re going our own way.
I wonder if the local roads have accumulated snow. Well, well, well, we’ll go carefully. From here on, we’ll take the local roads. It’s about an hour or so. I’m craving for pork bowl. The roads here are also thoroughly cleared of snow. A world of silver. I wonder how much snow has piled up.
Is it as tall as my height when it’s all packed together? Look, Kozu. It’s good that we were able to experience the importance of that arrow up there firsthand. It would have been a tough situation without it. During the 5-month summer trip in Hokkaido, I learned a lot.
I didn’t really feel it during the summer. But thanks to your hard work driving, we’ve come within the last 30 kilometers. Since it’s always Google Maps navigation, the estimated arrival time keeps extending. But with the car’s navigation, the arrival time is getting shorter. It feels good when the time is reduced.
It feels good, and it won’t guide you to strange roads. No doubt about it. This time, I’m heading there while checking the road conditions of the roads we’ll be taking in advance. Kozu is researching it properly, so… Thank you very much. The goal is to finish without any accidents or violations for real.
I’ve been saying that all along. (laughs) Beautiful. Those trees partially visible under the snow are really cute. But, you know, those trees buried in the snow, are they quite tall? Are they tall? They seem to be quite buried. I wonder. Is it snowing heavily? But not that much, right?
I think they are not very tall. If these are windbreak forests, they might be heavily buried. I can’t tell if this is a lot of snow or a little. No idea. But they said Chitose has less snow. They said it’s less this year, right?
We’ve come to the point where there are 11 kilometers left to Lake Shikaribetsu Kotan, but from here, it’s going to be tough. The road is the iciest it has been so far. Yeah, because there are trees around. The sun probably doesn’t shine much.
I think it might be a bit better once we pass through here. I hope so. There was a caution sign, you know. It said, “This area is often frozen.” Yeah, those caution signs are really helpful. The twilight is also incredibly beautiful. This curve is dangerous, you know.
I’m already slowing down properly before this curve. I’ve practiced this in simulations, you know. It’s a borrowed car, so the tension is even higher. Daisetsuzan National Park. The sign just came up. But we’ve come to an amazing place. I would never have expected to come to a place like this in my life.
Really. I’m having such a wonderful experience. Thank you. No, thank you. Really. Red fox. Yeah, that’s right. There are foxes in Hokkaido. But even in this cold, they’re just there, normally. Six more minutes. Six more minutes, huh. Thanks, Kozu, for driving. Your driving style is getting impressive.
You’ve become a splendid camper van owner. Well, it’s okay to speed up a bit, right?! No, no, no! Definitely not! That’s a different issue! I’m the type to get carried away, you know. I’ll keep praising you forever. Amazing, Kozu. It takes my breath away. You were impressed when you came in autumn too.
How many months has it been? Did we come to Mount Taisetsu in September? I wonder? Around September, I think. 5 months ago! It hasn’t been six months, huh? It’s amazing to come back again. The weather is bad (laughs). The weather is really bad (laughs). It says it’s sunny today, but
The world has changed. I’m getting nervous. Is it really there? Whether it will appear or not, the village of ice that only appears in winter. Lake Shikaribetsu Kotan. There were activities and such. Those activities seem really interesting. The snow walls on the side are amazing. It’s like the Alpine Route in Toyama.
It’s amazing, Lake Shikaribetsu is completely white. When I came here the other day, it was a lake. There it is! Amazing! It’s a bit hard to see from this side, but the buildings are there. Oh, there are people. We’ve arrived. The Ice Bar here has the last order at 5:30.
It was a close call whether we’d make it or not… But we managed to arrive at 5:12. Since we made it, might as well have a drink, right? I haven’t eaten anything today!!! I bought clothes at Workman today. I’m wearing clothes that were sold at Workman from head to toe.
So, I’m wearing Workman from head to toe. But, it’s really warm. Kozu, you’re in black attire. It’s warm. This one, let’s hurry. Yeah, let’s hurry. Got it. It’s amazing. That’s why it’s called a season pass. Amazing, Kozu! Beautiful. Let’s hurry to the ice bar. If we hurry, we might slip and fall, but…
There it is, right away. Good, it’s close. Amazing! Incredible, incredible, incredible. It’s cold, amazing. Just pure amazement. Dreams have come true. Want something to drink? -5 degrees Celsius. Is it warmer outside? Indeed, it is. Unbelievable. Truly icy. Amazing. Stylish. What’s good to drink? Blue Calpis. Seems like it’ll never melt. It’s already cold.
Cheers. Delicious. Calpis. Good job, Kozu. Hands are cold. In my hurry, I forgot my gloves in the car, committing a blunder. Fun. This side is amazing too. It’s so beautiful. I’ll take a picture later. Incredible. Scary. Isn’t it scary? It’s cold. The inside is not as cold as I thought. Delicious.
Feels like slipping. Haha. Looks like I’m going to slip. It’s so special. Really fun. Fun, Kozu. Dreams do come true. Such a life! Really happy. Yeah, really. Thank you. No, thank you for coming along. For joining. Having quite an experience. Nose is running. If you keep it, it starts to hurt.
So, we hold it with our clothes. The drinking part is starting to melt a bit. Delicate, this cup. The view here is beautiful too. Silently, silently. The judge is here. Death penalty. Why, haha. Really beautiful. Kozu, amazing. Carving. Even these stairs are amazing. Look, see? Carved, amazing. It’s true. Really glad we came.
Truly glad. But there’s still so much more. Further inside. If we stay until 8 o’clock, we can explore. They don’t have drinks. Let’s go a bit further inside. Wow, this was fun, here. Wonder what’s deeper inside. WELCOME, Lake Saroma Kotan. Starting to look like soldiers. This outfit, like tin soldiers.
A phantom ice village that only appears in winter. On top of the lake, really? Underneath, there’s probably lots of smelts. It’s -9 degrees. It dropped that much because the sun set. They say you can tell the temperature by alcohol. The water is frozen. Even beer is frozen. Beer is -4 degrees, it freezes.
Whiskey doesn’t freeze. Whiskey is -30 degrees. Shall we go inside? Ice bubbles, right? I’d like to see that too. Can you see them at Lake Onneto around the end of December? What’s underneath the ice? Have you seen it? Crayfish hibernating. And it’s 0 to 4 degrees. The deepest part is 98 meters.
They’ve made it so you can sleep inside. How is it? Cold. Is your back cold? Like a cold pack. But can you sleep comfortably? Yeah, it feels good. But I probably think I’ll be dead when I wake up tomorrow morning. It’s beyond the level of an igloo. Beautiful. Me? Lies, haha. Foot bath.
Is it a proper hot spring? But since it’s Saroma, I guess it’s a hot spring. It seems like the most chapels haven’t been built yet. They wrote that they’re scheduled to be completed around mid-February. I wanted to see what they’re like. I can see it because I have an annual pass.
It’s beautiful even from this side. Buses also pass through here, so it might be safe. The bus was going pretty fast, wasn’t it? The ground is sparkling, so it might not be slippery. In Sapporo, they spread those sparkling things on the road too.
No one was slipping, so it must be some super powerful substance. It was later revealed that it was just reflecting light. But you still shouldn’t let your guard down. However, it was amazing. I was moved. I’m really glad I came. The scale wasn’t that big, but it felt like another world.
I’ve only seen something like this in the news. It’s really true. I know I’m repeating myself, but… I never thought I’d really come in my life. I wanted to go, but… Because it’s truly on the level of fulfilling a dream. This winter trip to Hokkaido is a journey to fulfill dreams.
A journey to realize and experience dreams. We left Lake Shikaribetsu Kotan and headed towards Obihiro. There’s hardly any snow on this side. However, if you deviate from this road just a bit, there might be quite a bit of snow piled up. Coming here had two purposes.
One is the place we are going to now, and the other is to pick up a gourmet dish that I really wanted to eat. If I say I came to Obihiro specifically for a gourmet dish I really wanted to eat, you might have some idea. They might already know. We’re getting closer.
Ko-zu, isn’t that what you’ve been looking for? It’s quite beautiful. Originally, I was torn between the fireworks at Lake Akan. But it seemed like I wouldn’t make it in time for that. So, since we’re here, I decided to come to this place. Tokachi River Swan Festival
This seems to be an annual festival inspired by swans that migrate to the Tokachi River Onsen every year. It’s beautiful, isn’t it? There’s also an observation deck. Leaving the vicinity of Tokachi River Onsen and heading to today’s car camping spot. Tomorrow has a super challenging plan waiting for us, you know.
The direction we’re aiming for now is towards the lakes in eastern Hokkaido. We’ll make sure to reach a nearby area so that we can explore from early tomorrow morning. Even though we have beds, we also have a water supply. We can wash our faces inside the car. It’s huge.
Compared to our usual life. If you want to sleep, you can go straight to the back and sleep. Isn’t that amazing? It’s huge. You don’t need to do that task… The 5-minute preparation we do every day to sleep in our small compact car. Looking forward to sleeping is probably the most exciting part.
I understand, totally get it. Actually driving in Hokkaido, these roads are easy to drive. Yes, they are. They are well-maintained. I thought there were a lot of dangerous roads, but they are solid. Maybe because I watched too many dangerous YouTube videos. Before entering Hokkaido, I watched various videos about dangerous roads in Hokkaido.
I thought they were all like that. They are really well-maintained. The main roads are well snow-cleared, and there’s hardly any snow now. It’s really appreciated. For sightseeing or traveling, as long as you don’t push it, touring winter Hokkaido in a camper van is great.
This time of the year is also the off-season, so prices are lower. It’s a good idea. Because you don’t need to book hotels or anything like that. For a 2-night, 3-day trip, you can bundle everything with a rental car and hotels. A new discovery. You realize it when you actually do it.
Since it’s not the peak season, parking lots are quite empty. Although parking a camper van can be challenging, it’s very easy in winter. It’s great. We’ve made quite a bit of progress. We’re almost there… About 50 kilometers to go. Today, I’d like to go to Lake Akan.
There are no roadside stations around Lake Akan. So, we’re heading to a good car camping spot where we stayed last year. That’s right. Therefore, I’d like to see Lake Akan early tomorrow morning. However, it’s an incredible distance to cover.
This bullet-speed schedule of covering such distances is a skill that we, who have been car camping in the legendary DIY Nissan MOCO for over a year, can pull off. So, I don’t recommend this kind of schedule for everyone. Not recommended. But it’s fun. It’s really fun. Beware of animals crossing.
There was a huge Ezo deer. Signs warning about animal crossings are really appreciated. Oh, we’ve finally entered Kushiro! We were in Ashoro just a while ago. Oh, it really says Kushiro. Did you see that? This area, too, has a strangely mysterious feel, don’t you think? Can you feel it?
Finally, the word “Lake Akan” appeared on the navigation. Now, half of the map is Lake Akan. Lake Akan is quite dominating. Around here is the Ainu Theater. There it is! It’s nostalgic. Nostalgic. Ainu Kotan. It’s amazing that you can feel nostalgic like this. really. As I mentioned earlier…
It’s really a happiness to have so many places where you can feel nostalgic like this. We really worked hard on the filming here. We stayed here for several days. We did our best to get the best shots. Really. There are plenty of stories from that time. A mountain of stories.
It’s the first time going back to a place we’ve already visited. Speaking of that, until recently, we were traveling around Kyushu, and there are still some islands left, so we’re talking about going there again. We’re going to visit Kyushu again, you know.
I still want to visit the cave sauna that we couldn’t go to in the end. Well, well, I wonder if the parking lot is set up for car camping. A lot of other people seem to be staying here too. It seems like it’s a spot for that, huh?
There’s steam rising from the hot spring. Want to check it out? I’d like to. Tonight is the only chance to see Lake Akan at night. Let’s go take a quick look. Good job! Good job! We finished without accidents or violations. Kozu, thank you. We successfully completed the first day. I’m so happy.
I’m glad we made it this far. Let’s go take a quick look. On days like this, I get excited, and my eyes are wide awake. I can’t sleep; my nerves are on edge. There are people playing again. Those kinds of people end up getting hurt for real.
By the way, what’s the current temperature? Minus 11 degrees. There’s no wind, though. That’s nice. That’s the only saving grace. Look over here. It’s piled up quite a bit. It’s amazing. Hey, could that be falling from above? Could be. I’m 154 cm, so it’s about the same, right?
If you go further in, it’s probably around that much. It’s fun, Ko-zu. You wouldn’t think it’s 1 a.m. Look. Owl’s hand bath. Can I dip in? The best? Amazing! Hot. I think it’s about 45 degrees. And it has a slightly thick texture. Hot! It smells amazing, like a hot spring.
Not sulfur spring, is it? Isn’t it? It feels similar to Hokkaido’s Kawatou Onsen. Really? There’s an owl here. Thank you. Oh, there’s an owl above, too. Looks cold. The night view of Lake Akan is also incredibly beautiful. The night was beautiful when I came here before, too. Nostalgic. Kamui Illumination. I’m hungry. Look!
There’s a table. What do you think? The best. Isn’t it amazing? Can you do this in a car? We can live like this. This is van life! Our usual car camping in the light car was not a mistake. Absolutely not. I’m convinced! (Laughs)
I’ve been doing makeup since 7:30 in the morning, and I haven’t touched up once, so I look a mess. But please forgive me for today. Let’s eat. I’m hungry! There’s storage like this. Just placed in the gap. (Laughs) Indian curry! I really wanted to eat this. My saliva is crazy now.
Are you hungry? Can you tell me what’s good? Sure. Go ahead. Is it okay to warm it up in the microwave? There’s a microwave. Sure. Isn’t it amazing to warm up in the car? Ko-zu! Amazing. Should I turn on the ventilation fan? Amazing. It’s okay even if it smells.
By the way, the sub-battery is at 97%. Can you go from Chitose to Lake Shikisai-ko Kotan, then to Tokachigawa Onsen, and then to Lake Akan in one day? It’s fun! Exciting and thrilling. Done. How is it? It’s warm. Looks delicious, Ko-zu.
I sincerely want to tell my past self who bought this, “Order the large size.” I want to give some advice. Let’s eat! By the way… The sub-battery level is 95%. It might last quite a while if we don’t push it too hard. And since the heater is on, it’s warm. Happy.
This heater also gets really warm. I turned it down to about half because it got too hot at MAX. Then, with the naturally chilled oolong tea and alcohol in the refrigerator… I forgot to buy cups. That’s right. I completely forgot. Here we go. Looking forward to it. Can I eat?
Please, go ahead, eat. Let’s dig in. 100 million points. Out of how many points? Maybe out of 200 million. Out of 100 points! Being able to sit like this and eat is amazing. The best. So delicious. I’m glad to be alive. Not enough. I really want to say, “Go for the large serving.”
I want to eat this again. It’s addictive. Indian curry that locals love, you can feel it. Tears are coming out. I understand, lol. Planning this winter’s trip to Hokkaido is greatly influenced by the 5-month summer trip to Hokkaido. Want to see the winter scenery of the places visited during that time.
I really think the plan for this trip is exclusively ours. That’s true. As you say. Can I drink? Sure, I haven’t started yet. Cheers! It goes down smoothly! Can I take a sip? Go ahead! I should have bought more. Delicious. You can drink it like juice.
The comfort of a camping car is self-evident, don’t you think? On the contrary, do you think the non-DIY Nissan MOCO is better? There’s definitely a difference! Is that so? I think in life, there are ups and downs. It’s a MOCO, a kei car. A lot of tough things have happened.
But, it’s because we’ve overcome them together… Because we’ve overcome them, our bond has deepened tremendously. We can now share many experiences. It’s a valuable experience. I totally understand. It makes you more tolerant. Having a certain amount of space and freedom in a living space is important.
If there’s too much space, expectations toward each other might increase. With a MOCO, there’s no room for expectations. I think we show our unpleasant and dirty sides to each other, and that’s okay. So, it doesn’t bother the other person. How many times have I seen Kamu-chan’s Indian curry?
Stop it! I haven’t shown it even once! Lol Stop saying things that create misunderstandings. Lol Really, apologize! Lol See, when there’s a lot of space, we end up arguing like this. Lol Also, the boiling point to feel happiness has become very low. Is that a good thing? Lol
Well, it is a good thing. Lol In other words, I’ve learned to appreciate many things. That’s true, really true. Completing the round trip of Japan with the MOCO has a meaningful significance. They’re like companions now. I want to finish the round trip with that non-DIY MOCO.
Ko-zu, you have a completionist tendency, don’t you? It’s like you want to master something. If someone were to ask, “Why are you doing this with that car?”… I wouldn’t be able to say anything anymore, lol. Exactly, lol. I also wanted to bring Chibi and Bo with us.
I thought they would be happy to go for a walk here. I really wish I could take photos. Next time, I want to bring Chibobo to winter in Hokkaido. This was our first winter car camping in Hokkaido, so… We didn’t know what to expect.
It’s too late to figure it out after something happens. We can handle anything. We got an idea of what it’s like. Even though it’s only the first day, lol. We’ve got the hang of it. If we get into an accident tomorrow… It won’t be a laughing matter!
Next time, I want to bring a dog too. Aww, it’s lonely. The curry is gone. That’s sad. It’s sadder that the curry is gone. Hey! How about the loser goes to buy it with rock-paper-scissors? That won’t work, seriously. It’s a three-hour one-way trip. Yeah, and…
Even the winner has to go with them, lol. Seriously. No one will be happy. Thank you for the meal. Amazing, this! You can sleep like this. You don’t have to inflate the mattress to sleep. This ritual before sleeping… It’s completed inside the car now. It’s a ritual performed by all of humanity.
Well, well, I’ll perform the ritual and go to sleep early tomorrow. I’ll get the ritual outfit. Hey, wait a minute! What’s that? It’s not the ritual I was thinking of. I’ll wash my face. It’s amazing that I can wash my face with cold water and find it refreshing. It feels like home, Kozu.
It’s nice to be able to remove makeup in a warm space. It’s refreshing to wash your face with cold water. It’s amazing. That’s because the interior is warm. I didn’t think I could brush my teeth in a private space. The world of car camping has changed. Are you going to sleep, Kozu?
I’m already sleepy. Let’s go! Let’s go! This is about the same size as the bed in the hotel we stayed at yesterday. It’s really spacious. Try the comfort of sleeping on it. Ko-zu! I’m speechless. It’s amazing. Proper memory foam.
I’m not exaggerating, but it has the same resilience and softness as the hotel bed we slept on yesterday. Is this in the car? Am I dreaming? Maybe it’s still a hotel? Isn’t this incredible? Oh no! Kozu! Even Kamu-chan can sleep in this space. Look, the legs are like this!
I can stretch my legs properly now. Awesome! Let’s take this. Why? Impossible, lol. Negotiate for it. But there’s one way. Kamu-chan can work there. Are you settling in Hokkaido? Settling down and working. That might be a good idea. Well, well, Kozu, come on in. Wow, isn’t this amazing? The best!
Isn’t this just like a bed? Is this the same as the hotel bed from yesterday? What is this? It’s the best. Well, I can do my best tomorrow too. I understand. Quality sleep is important. Even with less sleep, this will do. Looking forward to tomorrow. Let’s drive safely. Good night. Good night.
Nature’s mixed-gender bath. To encounter such a sight… A few hours ago. February 14, 2023. Good morning from Lake Akan Mashu Onsen. Good morning. It was so comfortable. Very comfortable. Opening the curtain and seeing outside immediately. Isn’t it the best? It’s the best. Having sunlight in the car is important, after all. Important.
Thank you. Let’s eat. A bowl of miso soup makes you happy. I really like this car camping spot. I understand. I’m glad we could come again. Now, to Lake Akan. Shall we go to the viewpoint called “Bokke” for now? I want to go to Bokke. We can go, we can go. Amazing.
It’s starting to snow. This really feels like walking in the great nature of Hokkaido. This way, you can see different views in each season. I wonder how much snow has accumulated. Wow, this place… Just this much makes it like this. Try stepping on it. Oh, no. It’s okay because it’s from Workman.
It smells. Smoke is coming out. It’s smelling. It’s just 100 meters ahead. It’s puffing up. It must be really hot. This smell is unbearable. You can’t go beyond with a rope. Ko-zu, the snow is pure white. The front is melting a little. The lake isn’t completely frozen. The snow is amazing. Amazing.
This side is really something. I remember taking pictures with a 3m pole. We worked hard to take pictures back then. Probably… If you go down there, it’s Lake Akan. Really? Because when I came here before, I walked on this path with Chibobo. Is that so…? Huh, really?
Maybe they do smelt fishing in there? This is on the lake. Really? Look, already! Look! You’ll see if you dig! It’s just ice. What’s this? Give me back the distance I walked. It’s a bit disappointing that it’s blowing snow. But it’s still beautiful.
I’m afraid the ice has holes and it’s scary to get stuck. But it’s probably okay since the car can go. Because even with such a dense crowd, cars can go. The ice must be quite thick. Smelt fishing is not in Lake Akan, right? Smelt fishing is included in the plan for this time.
Thank you. There’s something I wanted to do. What is it? Someone is doing what I wanted to do! This is what I wanted to do. How about it? My face covered in snow, haha. Actually, I wanted to go around people doing this. What is this? Is the ritual starting? Haha.
I thought I was being sacrificed to the devil, haha. Nice.
Nice. You made a beautiful angel, you. Nice, Ko-zu.
I can’t believe this is on Lake Akan. Really. What an amazing experience. To people living in Hokkaido, my actions might just seem strange, haha. But you want to do it if you don’t live in a snowy area. The snow on my face is melting a little, it’s amazing, haha.
It’s like taking a shower, haha. Did I get it? Haha. Soon there’s a Michi-no-Eki Aioi. How about the bear-shaped pastries at Michi-no-Eki Aioi? I didn’t expect Aioi to come. Surprisingly, Aioi comes quite often. Here it comes! We met two viewers here before. Nostalgic. What do you think? How is it? How is it?
It seems they sell Kuma-yaki at the cash register. Really? Kuma-yaki is cute, right? Let’s go then. Is today Tuesday? Tuesday is a regular holiday! Haha. Oh no, bye-bye! Haha. Oh no, haha. Seriously… They talked a lot about Kuma-yaki, but… Well, it’s quite shocking… Too shocking, haha.
Why is it specifically on the regular holiday? But we’re going to eat that gourmet we wanted to eat, even if it’s very disappointing. What kind of sound effect is that? I don’t know, haha. We are leaving Lake Akan and heading towards Tsubetsu.
Among the various places in Hokkaido, this gourmet that we have come to love is probably ranked 1st or 2nd. It’s so delicious that we’ve been there twice. Three times. Three times? Three times. So is this the fourth time? The fourth time.
By the way, viewers might be thinking in their hearts, “It’s a regular holiday!” haha. I confirmed it by phone! It’s okay there! It’s a famous shop on Tabelog. Beautiful. It’s art. I’ve been holding back since this morning for this. I endured for this. This is the rose meat of Kitto Pork. Let’s eat.
It’s really delicious. I really want everyone to try this. If possible, I want to send it by mail. If only I had more financial resources. Let’s eat. It must be a sight to behold. Really delicious. If I’m allowed, I want to come again. I’m glad we came to Tsubetsu.
At the same time our stomachs were full, the snow stopped. The next place we want to go is the Gurutto Panorama Bihorotoge. This is one of my favorite Michi-no-Eki, competing for the top spot. I’m also interested in how Lake Kussharo looks at this time of year. Let’s head to Gurutto Panorama Bihorotoge safely!
The birch street here is beautiful. Today’s weather was clear, but everything turned white. How cold is it on this side? I wonder how cold it is. Let me check. -7 degrees Celsius. Isn’t that amazing? -7 degrees. It’s an experience I don’t have often.
We’ll reach the Gurutto Panorama Bihorotoge Road Station in 1 kilometer. The weather is bad. It’s cold, Ko-zu. I think it’s cold. Since this side is the mountaintop, it’s probably around -10 degrees, right? Is it really closed? I’m getting anxious. The lights are on! It’s open. Good, good.
We have arrived at the Gurutto Panorama Bihorotoge Road Station. Yay! This road station has become the one that resolves our big mistake. Nostalgic, Ko-zu. I didn’t think we would come again. By the way, the wheat slave was inside. From the Gurutto Panorama Bihorotoge. Yay! We’ve stamped all the road stations.
I’m sorry, thank you. Finally achieved our goal. We got both confirmation stamps. Thank you very much. Now, what kind of scenery is spreading out? I’m looking forward to seeing how Lake Kussharo looks from here. Wow, it’s totally different. It’s amazing, really. Finally, you can see it from here. Really?
Nostalgic, this view (although nothing is visible). We took a photo here with Chibobo four people. Lake Kussharo is beautiful, Ko-zu (although nothing is visible). I’m glad I could see it (although nothing is visible). Beautiful Lake Kussharo. The snow accumulation is amazing. If you go further, it’s beyond Kamu-chan. Ah, it’s hard. Stop it…
Oh… This is the elbow I got last time. I didn’t do it. It’s the one with the rib broken. If you practice on the ice like that, one or two ribs will break, haha. No doubt, haha. It was cold. It was cold, huh? Too bad. I’ll buy this for tonight’s dinner. Please.
Lake Kussharo was disappointing, Ko-zu. I was really looking forward to it. I was really looking forward to it. Yeah, I know. But we still have more to come! He’s totally down! But these things happen sometimes. It’s winter in Hokkaido after all. I was thinking of going to Lake Mashu next…
But when I checked the live camera, it’s like this. Blizzard at Lake Mashu. I thought the situation might not be much different from Lake Kussharo now. Is Mt. Atosanupuri visible? Is it, I wonder? According to recent reviews on Google, it seems beautiful with snow and Mt. Atosanupuri.
I want to go to Mt. Atosanupuri for a bit. Kamuchan, we’ve arrived. To the outdoor mixed-bathing open-air hot spring, Ike-no-Yu Onsen. Can you see it? How’s the water? If it’s warm, it’ll be a dreamy open-air bath in the snow. That’s what I came for. Probably, no one will come…
Based on information that says people almost never come in winter, I thought I’d be daring and give it a try. Let’s go check it out. Yeah, let’s do that. It’s emitting steam properly. The temperature is like a foot bath. Really? I wonder how it is.
After this, we’ll also go to Kawayu Kanko Hotel for a bath. But if we soak here thoroughly, we might warm up, right? I want to experience this location. So, the decision is made. Let’s get in. I’ll get in too. Please stop. Don’t show it. I’m completely naked inside. Let me explain the operation.
This operation is crucial. We’re going completely naked. Wearing only shoes, we’ll dash over there, undress, and get into the hot spring. After warming up and being satisfied, we’ll carry our clothes and shoes, dash back barefoot to the car, and dry off. We’ve already warmed up this place with a heater.
This can only be done with a camping car. If it were MOCO, it would have been a disaster. Let’s go, Kozu. I’ll join you. Alright, let’s go. It’s cold… It’s cold… It’s cold… A tragedy is about to happen to him after this… It’s quite slippery. Can I really get in this?
Kozu, are you okay? 😄 As promised, I sank into the hot spring still in my down jacket. Haha Be careful. It’s so slimy. This is already the ground, so be careful. It’s warm. It’s warm and feels good here. But my coat almost got completely submerged. Haha It was halfway underwater. Haha
If there’s a laundromat, can I use the dryer for a bit? The spot I got in is here. Try touching the front part. It’s incredibly mossy. I mean, seriously, it’s something… Haha Disgusting!!!!! When I entered and slipped… I thought it was over. Haha It was so funny. Haha
I got stuck in a bottomless swamp. Haha I thought, watching, that it wasn’t that deep. It was really funny. Haha Beautiful, really. It feels good. Maybe it was good to get in. I’m glad I got in. It’s a good experience. Really, really. Kamuchan, shall we go? Yeah. From here on, it’s hell.
I’ll take the lead a bit. Really? Can you go? Please don’t fall on the way, and, I beg you, whether the operation from earlier will work or not, you’ll have to put your body on the line. You don’t have to put your body on the line.
I don’t want to put my body on the line. Haha Well, be careful. Oh no, it’s frozen. I can’t get the wet down off… Life is once, so let’s be foolish, take risks, and have adventures. This is my favorite hot spring in Hokkaido. I’m glad I could come again.
I just took a hot spring bath. I really love Kawazu Onsen. Kozu, you said you liked it too, right? Isn’t the source of this hot spring amazing? Absolutely. Well, it stung a bit on my wounds. The pH level is 1.6. When I touched my skin, it felt like sizzling.
It’s like all the unnecessary keratin has peeled off. The hot spring tastes like iron, but it also has a salty taste and a strong sulfur smell. It’s quite unique. The color is also cloudy. It’s really a unique spring quality. I licked it a little today, and it was bitter. Which one was better?
The outdoor bath earlier or this one? Well, um… Definitely this one, right? Haha What are you talking about! It’s good, isn’t it? Because I was really tired before entering this hot spring, but I feel healed now. After this, I want to drive a bit and move around.
I would like to share that experience in the next video. Hokkaido “Shiretoko” World Natural Heritage Site Car camping in the natural beauty at -14°C February 14, 2023, 9:00 PM Starting from Shikaribetsu Asahikawa-yu The temperature on this day is -11°C Driving on unfamiliar snowy roads towards the World Natural Heritage Site Shiretoko.
I wonder what winter Shiretoko is like. I can’t imagine at all. I imagine a world of silver with drift ice and a considerable amount of snow. Yeah, I’m really looking forward to it. We are now 30 kilometers away from Shiretoko. Currently in Shari Town, Hokkaido, the roads are surprisingly clean.
I thought this area would be covered in snow, so it’s quite unexpected. Maybe it doesn’t snow much around here. After an hour of safe driving, we have arrived at the car camping spot. Good job. Thank you. No problem at all. Shall we go to the back?
It’s amazing that we can go to the back from here. The back is like another home! There’s a bed, chairs, and a table in the back. You can lie down right away, it’s seriously the best. Finished writing the blog. Good job. I’m tired. I’m hungry! I’m really hungry. Shall we eat? Tonight’s dinner.
The best! Luxurious~ Thank you. Shall we eat? It’s the third day in Hokkaido. Cheers! Sapporo Classic, Furano Vintage, I’m glad we have them. They’re still available. By the way, today’s lineup was bought at Seicomart. Kimchi, yakisoba, pickled Chinese cabbage, smoked cheese.
We also brought back gyoza from Seiyouken in Tsubetsu, where we had the most delicious pork bowl in Hokkaido for lunch. And also, fried sweet potatoes from Bihoro Pass. They must be delicious. Let’s eat. We should have bought some rice dishes. If there’s something, we can go to the convenience store nearby.
I don’t want to go because it’s cold outside. That’s why we have the non-alcoholic Lemon Do, right? Amazing! We can move it in this condition if we want. MOCO can’t do that. I instruct, “Hey Kamu-chan, can you go to the convenience store?”
If you fasten your seatbelt and drive ahead, there should be no problem. OK, can you not say it like Google? (laughs) But, yeah, Let’s eat gyoza. Kimchi is delicious. How is it? I think this will really boost our energy. Delicious. A blissful moment enjoying local gourmet inside the car. Reviving. Let’s eat. Delicious.
Maybe we should have bought two servings? Delicious. Even without anything, it’s delicious. I prefer the fried sweet potatoes from Bihoro Pass over those from Nakayama Pass. The windows are getting quite foggy. Indeed. What’s the current temperature? -14°. -14, huh? Isn’t -14° extreme? But, in comparison, it’s warm inside the car.
Really, isn’t it amazing? It’s getting a little warm, actually, with the alcohol. Tomorrow will be cold, Ko-zu. Even the highest temperature tomorrow will be -11°. -11°!? I wonder how it’ll be tomorrow morning… Certainly… It’s the first experience. Will we be able to comfortably spend the night in the camping car?
So far, it’s comfortable. Too comfortable (laughs). Just like home. No doubt. But, we’ve been to quite a few places in Hokkaido these past three days. We’ve been to various places. Amazing. In every aspect, I think spending five months in Hokkaido during the summer is huge. I really think so.
We’ve also gained a sense of the land. Like, if we go here, we can see this too. If we’re in trouble, we can go here. There’s a camping spot here, etc. The summer experience has been quite a nourishing experience. This time, it’s the second time we’ve come to Hokkaido, but
After visiting more than 15 prefectures, traveling around all the locations in Japan will be in that state. Since we’re visiting roadside stations extensively, we’re covering the entire country quite thoroughly. There are people who do two rounds of traveling around Japan, and that might be the kind of feeling they get.
Having done it once, the second time, you plan for a perfect conquest with your own planning. That makes it interesting. Well, at that time… Can I do it alone? Why not? (laughs) If I send you the videos, will you edit them at home? Leave it to me. What was that?
The first round, Kamu-chan invited me to do it. That’s where it’s weird. The first time, I was pushed by Kamu-chan’s momentum. The second time, it’s really… We really talked from scratch. Our perceptions are completely different! The fried sweet potatoes are delicious.
My mouth is so dry. All the moisture in my mouth has been taken away. These people are in high spirits. Who are you talking about? (laughs) Chibobo is doing it remotely (laughs). Since we don’t get full at all, we’re making that thing (probably referring to a dish). It’s amazing, isn’t it?
Isn’t it amazing that you can pour out hot water after making yakisoba? It’s amazing. It’s amazing that everything is self-contained in this car. Absolutely. Only the toilet and bath, right? Here you go! Thank you, sorry. Eating oil soba in the middle of the night is the best. You’ll gain weight.
It’s been a while since I had oil soba. It’s delicious. I occasionally crave it. Especially when tired? Looking at the packaging makes me want to eat it. Thank you for the meal. My stomach has gotten big. There’s oil soba on my clothes. Excuse me.
I need to go to the bathroom, brush my teeth, and go to bed. It’s better not to go outside thinking it’s the temperature inside the car. It’s cold. It’s cold, huh? It’s -14°C, you know. My face hurts. Haa, it’s cold. It was cold. Can I turn off the heater when we sleep?
Sure, sure. If it gets cold, turn it on right away. If you turn it on before waking up tomorrow morning, it should be fine, right? Let’s go to sleep. Well, good night. For now, I’ll ignite the heater. Kamuchan, wake up. The inside of the car has warmed up quite a bit.
Thank you, did you turn on the heating? It’s totally different. How’s the weather? Outside is completely white. Isn’t it cold? (laughs) The windows are double-layered, so it’s not cold. Yeah, it’s not cold. It’s cloudy. Kozu, there’s no water. Huh? The water isn’t coming out. Really? Oh, it’s true. Did it freeze?
Let me check. It’s cold over here. No, there is water. The water in the hose is frozen. Well, it was -14°C. Even the car can freeze. Can I do tooth brushing in the toilet? This one, Kamuchan bought it for me. It’s a lifesaver. How do you use it?
You put it on your socks, but I think it’s definitely better to wear two layers. Warming this part warms you up the most. Thank you. It’s cold, Kozu. It’s exactly 9 o’clock, so let’s check out breakfast at the Michi-no-Eki. Dangerous. The ground is quite slippery. We’ll come back here again.
It’s very convenient because the guidance here is solid. That’s true. Looking forward to it. Shiretoko Five Lakes can only be visited on this tour. Last year, we had this. Was that Kamuchan? I think it was pork bowl. The curry looks delicious. The bought dorayaki is frozen. (laughs)
Let’s leave it for 20-30 minutes before eating. The engine started. Good. The inner window is frozen. This side is indeed cold. I think it’s cold. The bedroom was really warm, though. Looking forward to seeing the drift ice. They’ve done a good job of snow removal. It’s cleared of snow.
As expected, it’s a tourist spot. Once you come here, you gain local knowledge, like the fact that there’s snow around here. That’s true. If you take the wrong road, it could be a disaster. (laughs) There’s a Seicomart, so let’s buy onigiri. Good idea. Kozu, they have Hokkaido potato fries. Can I buy them?
Sure, let’s buy them. They’re so delicious. This is the fourth one since entering Hokkaido. Also, let’s buy onigiri. Should I go for umeboshi? Shio-saba. The power is amazing. Incredible. Is it frozen? Is the sea freezing? They lift the boats properly. That’s right. It’s like this. Incredibly powerful. Amazing!
I’m glad I came at this time. There are things I think because I know summer. Shiretoko World Heritage Site. The image is changing in many ways. Certainly, certainly. That’s right. We’ll drive safely. This is a bit amazing! Let’s show it on camera later. I won’t show it yet.
I’m quite moved and feel like crying at the fantastic scenery. We’ve arrived at Cape Puyuni. Amazing scenery is spreading out. The sun is a bit hazy and hiding… The scenery in front is so amazing that I can’t move. Really amazing. I never thought I’d be able to see this in my lifetime.
Isn’t it amazing that you can walk above this and the ship moves inside? It’s completely different from what I imagined. I thought drift ice was just ice that looked like rocks, but I wondered if there was also a part of the sea. It turns out it looks like this.
I met someone at Aioi who decided to move after seeing the drift ice in Abashiri. I felt like I understood that feeling. Overwhelmed. Nature. A unique view. Waiting until the weather clears. Ko-zu, when I checked the water supply earlier, it started flowing. Because I turned on the engine and warmed it up.
It’s amazing, being able to relax in the car while waiting. It’s nice, isn’t it? So many extraordinary things are happening. We can say, “Let’s wait until the weather clears a bit,” which is really great. It’s truly amazing. Let’s eat. Delicious. This is happiness. No matter how many times I eat it, it’s delicious.
This is the best. It’s quite salty, isn’t it? I wonder if Seicomart’s rice balls become more concentrated with salt in the winter. It’s quite concentrated. The snow has stopped. Really? Maybe it’s better to break through forcefully. Let’s prepare and go after eating. Sotonokurashi looks like a good kid, doesn’t he? (laughs)
Captain, we’re ready! Looks like a team member. Fully equipped. Looks like a captain. Captain-like. We’re ready! Thank you. Captain, your gloves are amazing. For professional use. It’s only for professional use. I’m constantly putting my hands out for shooting, so this is just right. Well, let’s go. Looking forward to it. It’s really warm.
Let’s go carefully so we don’t get lost while we’re here. We’ll walk on the forest road for about 20 minutes. It’s amazing, this is quite deep. Everyone wants to do it. I’ve been here once, so I know the route and can go without getting lost.
But if it’s your first time, you might get lost. Seriously, if a blizzard hits, it’ll be closed, right? Can you see it? I can’t see far ahead, but… I’ll go scout a bit ahead. How is it? It’s amazing. Really? It’s amazing, Ko-zu. Was it good to come? It was good. Amazing.
You still can’t see far, but… The power is amazing! Impressed? Really amazing. Now, let’s see what kind of scenery we can witness. Furepe Falls. It’s frozen. It’s freezing. Amazing. Isn’t it incredible? It doesn’t feel like Japan. Impressive. It’s completely different from when we came last time. Furepe Falls. It’s frozen. It’s freezing. Amazing.
Isn’t it incredible? It doesn’t feel like Japan. Impressive. It’s completely different from when we came last time. Did we come at a good time? As we walk this way, the trees gradually disappear, and the power is different. It’s beautiful. Emotions are about to explode. I’m glad I’m alive.
I’m glad I came with Ko-zu. Thank you. I’m glad I came to see this. Can I go a little closer? Sure. Feels good. Feels good? Isn’t that “pafu” moment when it falls down great? Feels good. Someday, I want to do winter camping in Hokkaido. I want to go camping.
Winter camping is so desirable. After this, I want to go see Oshinkoshin Falls. Oshinkoshin Falls. Look! “Shimaenagonkimochi.” Cute. Is the Shimaenaga always like this? I thought it was on the trees. I want to see Shimaenaga. Next time, I want to go on a trip to see Shimaenaga.
I won’t go home until I see Shimaenaga! Journey. This feels like a complete Shimaenaga. Just as I imagined. There are many unknown animals, so it’s interesting. It’s even more amazing up close. Is this flowing and reaching here and stopping in this state? That’s probably it.
I actually didn’t know that drift ice comes all the way to Shiretoko. I thought it only went to Abashiri. I wonder how far the drift ice goes. Exactly. It’s not frozen over here. Welcome back. I’m home. Was it cold? It’s cold. (Inside the camping car) It’s warm.
Once you’re here, you forget about the cold. It’s snowing again. It is, indeed. It feels like it’s dancing in the wind rather than falling. Certainly, it’s not easy to tell. But the sun is shining. What time is the next one? The next one is at 15:40.
This roadside station is also a meeting point. Thank you. The best trip to Hokkaido. Enjoying it to the fullest. We didn’t include time for a bath in the plan Ko-zu made, so when will we take a bath? When are we going to take a bath? You took two baths yesterday, lol.
The first one wasn’t a bath, it was an activity. Seriously, running naked in the snow was a first for me, lol. Thanks for the meal. Oh no. This is seriously dangerous, Kozu. I feel an incredible sense of indulgence. Is there anything more luxurious and happy than eating and lying down immediately after?
Today, I plan to go to the drift ice walk in Shiretoko. Looking forward to it, Kozu. First activity! It’s like an Eva pilot. It looks similar to Asuka in terms of color. This is clothing, so it’s not my stomach. That’s right. I need to lose weight.
It’s apparently rare for the white to extend to the horizon. Moreover, until yesterday, the ice hadn’t come. By the way, Ko-zu… Today, too… Today, your chest is thick again, lol. You can feel stronger in protective clothing. The guide also said, right? “I haven’t become stronger at all,” lol. The gloves aren’t waterproof.
We were told to be careful. Scary! Guide: “This area is also drift ice.” Drift ice! Guide: “Shall we go see freshly broken drift ice?” Isn’t it amazing? Holding drift ice… Scary, scary, scary. It’s scary. If you take your eyes off… I immediately grab a weapon.
Guide: “Just now, someone suddenly fell in a flat area with nothing.” Guide: “If you think it’s dangerous, take this posture.” Guide: “If you do this, you’ll catch here.” I see. Just thinking about it is scary. It’s quite a life-threatening situation. Well, yeah. He’s smiling so much, lol. This area is still shallow.
Taking big steps here. Dangerous! Scary. Guide: “What I want you to be careful about in places like this is that putting your foot here is dangerous.” The edge is easily crumbled, so be careful. Guide: “Is this the kind of ice walk everyone imagines?” Guide: “These kinds of formations occur near the shore.”
Guide: “The farther you go, the more stable and flat the ice becomes.” It’s probably more challenging than it looks. Well done! A pro! Having an amazing experience. Guide: “It’s floating at the eye level of the ice.” Feeling like floating ice. I want to drift away. The fog is clearing. Amazing, Ko-zu.
The sunset is so beautiful. Walking on the sea. You’re a person of good luck! This timing, being this clear. Until yesterday, they only walked around the fishing port area. They can walk on the sea starting today. What was that? What was that just now? Fun.
Guide: “This is called ‘Ice Squeaking,’ the sound of ice rubbing against each other.” Guide: “Around here.” Guide: “You can only hear it when the ice moves significantly.” Guide: “It’s quite rare.” Guide: “You may not feel it, but the ice on this side is moving.”
Guide: “The area where everyone is standing is moving right now.” Guide: “There are waves, tides in the sea, so it moves.” Look, the sunset is beautiful. Ice and sunset. Guide: “By tomorrow, it may return to just a regular sea.”
Guide: “The ice flows out of the harbor when the wind blows from the mountain side.” Guide: “When the waves get stronger, it crumbles apart.” Miracle. This. What’s dangerous is… These kinds of pitfalls. You can’t tell if there’s snow covering them. Scary, right? Really dangerous. They advised us to walk where there are footprints.
We’ll follow that. Oh, this side looks interesting. Ora Ora Ora Ora! What are you doing! Amateurs! Scary. If you drop something here, it’s over. Guide: “One of my guide friends dropped their smartphone, and it glowed and sank into the sea.” The worst… Guide: “Everyone, please be careful.” The kind you see in photos.
Yeah. I never thought I’d see it with my own eyes. Tomorrow, we have plans in Abashiri, so we’re moving. I have no idea where the lanes are in everything. It’s snowing a lot. Incredible. This is Lake Abashiri. The hot spring here, we couldn’t go last time. It was a timeout.
I never thought I could get revenge like this. Here’s to you! Looks delicious, Kozu. My first sushi in Hokkaido. And also Seicomart. Thanks for driving today too. Thank you for updating the blog. Cheers! Delicious. Delicious. Beer is really good after all. The bath today felt great. Glad you found it. Thanks.
It was good to get revenge. It was spacious. There were three temperatures of hot water, and the outdoor bath had snow. Let’s eat squid! Delicious, Kozu. I never thought I’d go to winter Shiretoko in my life. It’s really good.
What I thought today is, when I quit my job, I wanted to live in a way that I wouldn’t regret when I die. I really felt that. I felt that I was not wrong. I want to continue living that way in the future. I really thought so.
This winter in Hokkaido had some forced aspects in terms of schedule. I thought about it as I traveled around the scenery I wanted to see. If you don’t act when you want to see it, you can’t see it in your life.
That’s why Japan has the saying “When you want to do it, it’s a lucky day.” Certainly, that might be true. However, there are still places that you can’t go even if you want to. For us, it’s overseas and remote islands.
It would be nice if I could deliver many sceneries to those who can’t see them. I will go there in the future! To Yuhotsuku! You’re really pushing for Yuhotsuku, huh? (laugh) I understand wanting to experience it, but Until now, camping cars weren’t an option for travel.
But it might be number one in satisfaction. Being able to move is also good. It’s nice not to worry about check-ins and check-outs. It’s significant that you can always move in a private space. Maybe because we’re used to car camping. That might be it.
For families with elementary school children or families with four or five people, Considering the cost of renting a car and hotel, renting a car is definitely more economical and flexible. If the child gets tired, there’s a bed, and you can let them rest. I’m happy, Kozu. Really happy. Thank you. No, thank you.
While taking a bath, I always feel grateful to be with Kamu-chan. It’s the only time when we’re apart, you know. I really think so. I was thinking the same while entering the sauna today. I was thinking the same while soaking in the outdoor bath. Hokkaido has two more days. Just two more days.
It went by so fast. These six days have been so fulfilling. Indeed. I can’t wait to see Chibobo. I’m going to bed. I have to wake up at 3:30 tomorrow, so take care. Alright. Good night. Good night. Bota: “You guys are having fun just by yourselves.” Uh-oh, it’s Bota’s spirit. (laugh)
Chibi: “Aah, aah.” Chibi: “It’s getting annoying.” Chibi too. (laugh) Chibobo’s spirit is flying around. Bota: “Do you know what’s going to happen?” Chibi: “We’re happy too. ” It’s good to see them resting peacefully. Good night. February 16, 2023, 3:30 AM, Hokkaido, Abashiri First, let’s turn on the heater. It’s dangerously cold. So cold.
Kamu-chan, wake up. I’ll warm up the engine first. It’s cold. Please put on a heating pad. It’s extremely cold, so let’s bundle up completely. Ko-zu, it seems like there’s drift ice. Really? Yes, indeed. 4:15 AM, Departure from Michi-no-Eki “Drift Ice Road Abashiri.”
But you know, they’ve been clearing the snow like this since around 3 in the morning, right? It’s amazing. We’re really grateful. Our destination is… We visited “Fukurou no Keikoku,” where we camped in the summer. Our goal this time is… It’s amazing, Ko-zu. The windows are frozen. (Inside the car) It’s very warm, though.
Because right now, it’s -23°C. Incredible, right? Isn’t it dangerous? It’s -26°C, Ko-zu. I’ve never seen -26°C before. I never thought I’d see this number in my life. We finally arrived…! Welcome to the world of -26 degrees. But the air feels incredibly clear. They say you can’t slide when it’s too cold.
Can’t slide at all. This is Lake Chimikeppu. You haven’t been here in the summer, right? I don’t really know what it looks like in the summer, but it’s amazing. We’ve safely arrived at Lake Chimikeppu. This is Yoshimi-san, our guide from Fukurou Valley, who will be guiding us today. Already, my hair is frozen.
They made popsicles for us today. Thank you very much. You dropped your gloves again. I’ll be careful and follow you. Are you okay? Haha. Ice fishing is a life-risking activity… (probably not) It’s so slippery. Yoshimi-san, are you okay? Are you okay?
Usually, they transport it with friends, but this time, he took the risk alone for the shoot. I could only watch. So cute and healing. Haha. But look at this location, Ko-zu. It’s amazing. If it were just us, we would never have come here. Yoshimi-san! Your spikes are off!
Spikes! It doesn’t make sense! Haha. Too funny. Haha. Amazing, it’s frozen. Good thing I came without makeup. Video-wise, it’s better to have makeup, though. They set up a tent for smelt fishing. We couldn’t have done this on our own. What an incredible world. I’d probably freeze if I stood here for a while.
And in an instant, they set up the tent for us. Everything is perfect, Ko-zu-san. I’ll sit down. Amazing, it’s like a sitting cushion. Something I wanted to do! How deep do you dig for this? Staff: “Now, about 30 cm to 50 cm.” Getting a bit tired, so I’ll let Ko-zu take over.
This is fun. It’s like making shaved ice. The strength is totally different. Exciting for a first-time experience! How do you feel right now? It’s amazing! I need to expand my repertoire a bit more. Haha. Ko-zu, don’t fall. Absolutely don’t fall, Ko-zu. I won’t fall. Haha.
Now, we’re going to use this water for the White Peacock experience. And since it’s great weather, it’s definitely going to look good. This is supposed to be really warm. Want to touch it? Ko-zu, can you drink this? They say you can make cup noodles with this. Haha. Preparing for the fantastic White Peacock.
The perfect location… Ko-zu. I’m going to show you something amazing now. Close your eyes! I’m looking forward to it. It’s incredible. It brings tears to my eyes. Alright, Ko-zu, give it a try. Show us something good! I’ll show you a pro’s technique. What an experience. Ko-zu, it’s amazing. There’s frost forming.
Feels like home now. It’s okay even without gloves. When we were playing, they prepared a lot and made many holes. Definitely made some good holes. Alright, let’s get started. Our first-ever smelt fishing, a dream come true. Let’s see who catches the first one today. Let’s have a competition. I won’t lose.
What if you lose? If I lose, I’ll dance naked outside. Haha. Who benefits from that? Haha. No one would be happy. Haha. The stakes are too high. Haha. The loser has to buy Seiko Mart’s Hokkaido Potato Fries. We usually share one, but let’s buy two this time. Ladies… Fight!! Fight!!
Now, we’ll bait the hooks. Using maggots. Alright, let’s get started. Haha. Receiving thorough instructions. Finally, smelt fishing! Ko-zu, did you catch one? Seriously? Must be a lie. You’re mistaken. It’s staged, right? It was staged. What the heck! They said it came as soon as it went in! It’s not that easy. Haha.
My apologies. Ko-zu, isn’t that the one you just had? I don’t think this is staged. And now… It was staged. Staged! Did you poke it? I was doing the same earlier. Two fiercely competitive individuals await their moment in silence… Has it finally been caught?? I caught one! Yoshimi-san is also thrilled! He wins.
It’s big! Bigger than I thought. Here comes another! I got one! …Will it be caught? LOL I’ll do my best too. Kamuchan got one again. But I think mine also bit a little. Do your best! Do your best! Back to square one. Change the location? Do it there?
I definitely want to pull it up here. Not at all… I don’t feel like there’s a fish on. Two fish attached! Yay!! That’s great! Two at once! Did I catch up with Ko-zu? I’m so happy! Everyone is relieved. LOL What is this? It’s a smelt. Caught by the staff.
It seems they catch it using smelt as bait. You can also catch cherry salmon. Should I try holding it? Hold… Hold it? (Why, LOL) So Kozu, what’s your impression right now? It’s the best! Not caught, not caught! Just holding them! Oh, well… as expected… You can catch them! What’s with this guy! Haha
Is this… equivalent to five? That lovable smile. Getting better at fishing. Kozu surpassed me. Amazing, they’re really biting. Fever! Once again, caught two. Amazing, teach me the secret to catching two. Master! Feel free to contact me anytime. (laughs) Maybe you’ll come next time? We’ll see… Look at this, it’s too much.
Amazing, Kozu. You’ve got them. Despite hearing that they aren’t biting much this year. Thanks to the tour by Owl Valley, they’re the best. It really comes down to that. Because they said Lake Chimikeppu is extremely difficult. It’s a great experience. Fantastic. This is the best.
Hold on, I’m going to continue, so please don’t interrupt. It was a great Wakasagi fishing. Since the weather is nice, we’re going to play in the snow. A dream… The Gulliver experience was also a lot of fun. It was difficult to capture in the video, so I took photos. Words cannot express it.
Today has been incredibly fulfilling. I woke up at 3:30 in the morning and have been fulfilled ever since. Let’s eat tempura! I’m allergic to fish, so I can’t eat it. The Wakasagi is bigger than I thought. (laughs) If it was smaller, I thought I might try it. They’re preparing the tempura.
I thought they were swimming, but it seems they’re washing them with this. They wash them with clean water. I think the Wakasagi, after frying, would taste amazing with this Owl Spice. Kozu, what do you think? Have you seen this Owl Spice? Look, it contains powdered Rishiri Konbu in the ingredients,
It’s a spice that lets you feel Hokkaido! As I have a fish allergy and can’t eat Wakasagi, they prepared vegetables for me. These are wild vegetables from Hokkaido. Thank you so much. Is my head soaking in an icy pond? I’m bowing that much. You’re not bowing at all. Can I bow down? (laughs)
My idol, Sayaka-san, treated us to tempura. It’s too moving. We couldn’t do it ourselves. Even if it took 500 years, it would be impossible for us. The hospitality is amazing. We’re really grateful. With this Owl Spice! They recommend putting it on tempura. Now, starting with the shishito pepper, here we go.
It’s a shame to eat it. It must be delicious, the sound was amazing. Crispy! The shishito pepper is not bitter at all, it’s delicious. The spice has a strong broth flavor. We also have various outdoor spices, but they never had that broth flavor before. This spice has a deep flavor.
Can you keep licking it forever? You can drink alcohol while licking this. (laughs) That’s an exaggeration! (laughs) No one does that. (laughs) Look at this. It’s amazing. Kozu-san finally achieves the dream of eating freshly caught Wakasagi tempura. The dream of eating the Wakasagi he caught directly as tempura is about to come true.
Look at this. It’s already art. Sayaka-san is a genius. I want to watch for another two hours. Really? I might head home first. (laughs) First, I’ll eat it with salt. I’ll start with the head. Oh, really? Either is fine… (laughs) Either is fine? (laughs) Did we really need that information? (laughs)
Here I go. It’s incredibly delicious. So fresh. Of course, it was alive until a moment ago. It was moving, moving in my mouth. That’s an exaggeration, right? (laughs) No strong taste at all. No bitterness or raw smell? None at all. It’s amazing that it’s on the ice.
Now, I’ll try it with the Owl on this side. Totally different! Applause. As expected, the flavor becomes quite deep, probably because it contains Rishiri Konbu. It gives a sudden richness. It’s incredibly delicious. It’s luxurious. It looks delicious even just poured over white rice. It seems like it could be eaten like furikake rice.
This is happiness, Kozu. It’s heaven. Thankful. Such a great experience. Really. Couldn’t have done it if we lived a normal life. The best. Thank you very much. A precious experience. Staff: “Please come play again.” We will! Staff: “Take care.” Yes, thank you! In this Wakasagi fishing, Kozu-san caught the fish first.
In terms of quantity, Kamu-chan caught more, but… Priority goes to the (first) contract. It was amazing; it was a real fever. Caught two fish three times. Thank you very much. As promised, I bought Hokkaido Potato Fries at Secoma. There was only one. Instead, I bought a mini chocolate croissant.
The best combination, salty and sweet. There was something I wanted to try with Hokkaido Potato Fries. Sprinkle Owl’s outdoor spice on it. It’s delicious. I think it’ll definitely go well. It’s good for when you want a little extra flavor! Sounds good, right? Let’s put it all on. Use it carefully!
Can you wait until this is gone… Is it okay if I wait? Don’t waste time. Let’s take it easy until the time comes. We’re going to see drift ice. In the next video, it will be our drift ice and the last night in the camping car.
I hope to bring you the last night. Please look forward to the next video. Oh, right. Lastly, but not least, is the introduction to the Wakasagi fishing tour we experienced today. It’s a tour offered by Fukurou no Keikoku Campground. I’ll put a link in the description. It’s an amazing campground.
We love it there. If you’re interested, please check out Fukurou no Keikoku Campground from the description. One thing I can say is that they are really nice people. The truth is we came to meet those people this time. It’s one of the reasons we came to Abashiri. It was so much fun.
Please check it out. The sea covered with drift ice. All gone by noon… I don’t know if we’ll see the drift ice, but we’re going on a boat. This time, we’ll be on the Aurora. Can we see the drift ice… Departure! Amazing. Beautiful. Ice blue.
It’s been continuously snowing on the drift ice, right? Really. What a fantastic world. Look. Nothing but drift ice. Can’t see the harbor anymore. It’s really amazing. There are various posters of drift ice, right? It looks just like them. It looks like this for real. It gives you goosebumps; it’s amazing. I understand.
Moreover, depending on the day, the Absolutely coming again! It was fun. Really enjoyed it. Fun from morning to night. Hokkaido is almost over, Ko-zu-san. It was fast, just a moment. Super fulfilling. Let’s go buy dinner for our last night in the camping car.
This is a gourmet we wanted to eat again when we came to Hokkaido. Let’s go buy and eat. Takeout our favorite Triton (sushi). We’re going to a 24-hour hot spring. Heading to a car camping spot. Car camping at Onneyu Onsen Roadside Station. Let’s eat! And a toast on the last night! Cheers!
We announce what we’ll eat on the last night in Hokkaido! Triton that we’ve always wanted to eat! Because it’s the shop we chose as the top in the sushi video compilation. I wanted to eat Triton. It’s really delicious. Triton’s sushi is big, isn’t it? There’s Fukurou no Keikoku, the guide for wakasagi fishing.
We went to see them in the summer too. It was a chance to hear the stories of the people who actually live there because it was the second time. Hearing about life in winter in Hokkaido makes it easier to imagine. The dream of moving to Hokkaido expands. Encounters are truly the greatest asset.
I really think so. I keenly felt it. It was a really wonderful encounter. We also need to work hard to give back. There are various encounters. We talked in the video that we want to contribute to society. We’re not actually being invited to come to our place.
But every time, we feel extremely grateful because they treat us so well. That’s true. But what we can do is not limited. At that time, I always think. “Let’s become more famous!” Right? I want to convey good things to more people. I want to get stronger and spread more.
I really think so. We have to do our best. We’re currently on a trip to Hokkaido, and the videos have stopped for a while. But even in such a situation, there are people who are waiting for us, and there are people who enjoy reading the blog. Hey!
Why are you drinking wine directly from the bottle? We’re having an important conversation now! I don’t have a glass. *Laughs* That was a bit awkward. When we return from Hokkaido, let’s work hard on the videos. Let’s work hard. If asked how hard we’ll work… We’ll work super hard!
Absolutely won’t say they’ll do their best, huh? *Laughs* I’ll do my best a lot! You can trust me the most, haha. I thoroughly enjoyed winter in Hokkaido, but what do you want to do next winter? I have a clear idea. What? Camp. Camp!? Winter camping. I’ll come fully equipped. At Fukurou no Keikoku?
That’s right. I want to camp at that location. I have one more thing. I want to play more closely with Kamu-chan and Fukurou no Keikoku. That might happen! *Laughs* They’ll teach us various games. Yeah! It’s amazing. They know almost all the activities in Hokkaido, it’s detailed. Certainly, that’s true.
It might be presumptuous, though. I really want to do it. I want to. And since they’re all knowledgeable, it’s interesting to listen to their stories. They teach us various things. Wasn’t the hot spring we entered today really good? I was surprised. I was surprised.
Isn’t it amazing that it’s unmanned and open 24 hours? You found it well. Your research skills are amazing. That hot spring was really good. When I looked at the composition table of the hot spring, the pH value was 9.5.
It’s below pH 9.5, like one of Japan’s three most beautiful baths or three most beautiful skin baths. Is that so? But the pH value was higher, and the source overflowed. In terms of that, there are good things that are not circulated on the internet, right? Yeah, that’s the feeling. I’m drinking alone sadly.
Also, I have to drink this much until tomorrow when I return, haha. Good night. Good night. Thank you. Finally, I can get into bed. We’re going to karaoke from now on. Please spare me, haha. Get out! Good night. Good night. Last day Kozu, can I put on my clothes?
It’s okay, we’re almost there. The ground is crunchy. The sound of snow is amazing. Preparing for departure. Organizing luggage for the return. Last day in Hokkaido. Thank you very much. Let’s finish with a smile until the end. Please continue to drive safely. Approaching Mount Taisetsu, but the view here is also good, right?
Good! It’s really good, isn’t it? This side has become quite beautiful. Amazing. Totally different from before. Snow removal is in progress. Grateful, huh? So, that’s how it is. Really? I didn’t know. Snow is being ejected to the side, so it accumulates. Grateful. After passing through the tunnel, we finally reached Sankou Pass.
We have arrived. It’s been a while. Everything is closed now. The toilet is also unavailable. Completely white. Amazing, Kozu. Can’t see anything. Indeed. But it was good to see this sign. Amazing. This side is a bit clear. Sankou Pass is nice. The sun is shining a bit. Is this definitely birch? Birch Road.
So beautiful. Growing beautifully. We will soon arrive at Taushubetsu Observatory. Thank you very much. Nostalgic! We parked our car here and went to see it. Met a viewer by chance. Nostalgic. We are passing by here and heading towards another place. Quite a lot of people are stopping. Probably ice fishing.
Now, we have arrived at Lake Katsurazawa. We will aim for the Taushubetsu River Bridge without participating in the tour. It’s quite scary. If there’s a hole like this, it says “Please do not approach.” Complete self-responsibility. Let’s go carefully while looking around. They said we would walk about 5 minutes on this forest road.
It’s helpful when there are tracks like this. Seriously, yesterday was too cold, but now it’s totally fine. I’ve experienced -26 degrees, you know. Around here, there might be long-tailed tits or something, right? Yesterday, I was taught how to call them long-tailed tits. I want to call them. There are tables and chairs.
It’s a cafe. Vast. The ground didn’t look like this yesterday. Fun. It’s very easy to walk. This was the way straight. Thank you. We received information that there are some ice bubbles! They were very kind. They probably knew we were tourists. They had cameras. We’re saved.
If we had continued, we would have gone straight. This way. There are ice bubbles around the sign. There’s a warning about pitfalls around here. Is this it? Ice bubbles. Be careful, there are cracks. How do you feel now? It’s amazing! That’s all that comes out.
Honestly, I had given up a bit this morning. I had given up. I’m sleepy. And tired. We have to walk for about 2 hours round trip, so… I was a bit hesitant, but… I’m really glad I came. When you see such a spectacular view, adrenaline kicks in and fatigue disappears.
Here it comes, Kozu. We finally made it. Taushubetsu River Bridge. Back then, those who were watching us, who would have thought we would come to Taushubetsu in winter? Living here would be different, though. Hokkaido is the best in winter. In terms of tourism, it’s really great.
Since there are tracks, snowshoes don’t seem necessary. Workman’s boots are enough. It would be tough in the morning. Especially on a morning after a snowy day. These sudden appearances of ice are beautiful. I wonder how they become like this. It’s incredibly beautiful. He said you sprinkle water and polish it with your hands.
This doesn’t seem to be ice bubbles, but it’s amazing. Amazing. It must hurt a lot if you slip. It hurts if you slip. If you fall and get stuck in these, it hurts. Kozu didn’t give up until the very end. He never gave up on Taushubetsu.
Because he said he would come for revenge. He did say that back then. It really came true. Words have power. I never thought I’d get this close. Back then, we saw it from a very far distance. I wonder where we saw it from. On the other side? Quite far away.
Doesn’t seem like it’s there. Definitely different. Even farther away. We’ve come to an amazing place. Finally, Kozu, we made it. Underneath, it really feels like a lake. Well, in this environment, it’s bound to deteriorate. I never dreamed we could come this close. Amazing, isn’t it? It’s already quite broken.
It’s bound to disappear in the future. Coming to a place like this, it feels good. Feels good. It’s pleasant. The wind is gentle. The Taushubetsu River Bridge is overhead. Is that so? In the summer, this is a lake, Kozu. In summer, you can’t do this kind of thing. It would just sink.
We’re in an amazing place. Luckily, no one is around. It’s luxurious, this view. Ephemeral yet beautiful. Because it’s the last… I wanted to enter a place like this, but… It seems quite deep. Up to about the thighs. It got shallower. Oh no. I guess a lot of weight is on one leg.
Are you okay? How far does it go? Amazing. I think it’s even deeper. It’s scary. How was your winter trip to Hokkaido? It was so much fun. Really enjoyed it. Really. I’m confident that I enjoyed winter in Hokkaido more than anyone in this short period. Confident, proud. No doubt.
I’m glad I could see the Taushubetsu River Bridge in that condition. The shadows were beautiful. You’re a lucky person. This trip was really lucky. I’m overwhelmed with emotions. Now, I’m going to eat the gourmet I want to eat last in Hokkaido.
After that, I want to board a plane and return to Osaka to meet up with Chibobo. A 5-night, 6-day midwinter road trip across Hokkaido. Today is the last day for the camper van. I want to drive on the last day. I’ll explain the reason inside. I want to drive to New Chitose Airport.
Alright, I’ll drive safely to the end. Thank you. The viewpoint is high, so surprisingly easy to drive. Easy to drive, right? I’ll go ahead a bit. What a fantastic view, nice weather. By the way, it’s now 2:30 PM. Estimated arrival is around 5:50 PM. So, about 3 hours.
I’ll explain the reason why I’m driving on the last day. Of course, there’s a reason for driving. I usually only drive regular cars. I think people hesitate a lot to drive such a big car for the first time. But, you won’t know the driving comfort until you try driving.
You probably won’t understand the differences from regular cars. So, I think it would be great if people who are afraid of driving a big car can widen their horizons by actually driving it. So, I’m the one driving this time. Actually, Kozu has let me drive a little bit before.
I practiced in a safe place. So, please rest assured that this isn’t the first time I’m driving on this Hokkaido trip. It’s not a live performance at the very end. Impressions of driving the camper van for the last time. It was scary at first, but surprisingly easy to drive. Yes, it is.
Actually, it’s easy to drive. Probably, I think the reason is because it’s Hokkaido. I think there are a lot of reasons. The roads are wide, and there’s not much traffic. There are no height restrictions either. Height restrictions are the most overlooked. People in Hokkaido are used to tourist cars.
So, even if you drive slowly, they’ll let you pass. It’s easy to drive without being overly concerned. Winter in Hokkaido, rental car number, and even a camper van. People keep a good distance. However, since I don’t know what will happen until the end of the drive,
I’ll let you know about the ride comfort later. But for now, it’s comfortable. The windows are wide, the side mirrors are solid, and the height makes it easy to drive, that’s the first impression. Oh, it’s coming into view. I’m hungry. I’m really hungry. I haven’t eaten anything since morning.
This is my second time here in these 5 nights. Indian! I decided to eat it when I come back for sure. Fukujin-zuke all-you-can-eat is great. I thought about getting takeout today, but since there’s all-you-can-eat, I’ll eat inside. Looking forward to it. Let’s eat. The chunky vegetables are the best.
The regular ones don’t have these potatoes, so… Delicious! So satisfying. It’s undoubtedly delicious. Curry after exercise is so good. We’re about to enter the highway soon. The highway is easier because there are no signals and fewer people. I just said something obvious. No signals and no people. That’s why it costs money.
Oh, is that so? I was surprised. I was surprised. I was surprised. I haven’t used the highways since I started the journey around Japan, so I thought I might have forgotten. Maybe my sense of highways was glitching. Highway entrance. Finally going back. Towards Sapporo! Thank you, Hokkaido! No, not yet, haha.
It’s like there’s a prefectural border. It’s been Hokkaido all along. Even though it’s a highway, let’s not speed too much. Let’s drive safely without causing trouble. Few cars. Easy to drive. The snow on the ground has melted well. Lucky. Indeed, Tokachi has a lot of sunny days. It’s beautiful when the sun shines.
The snow-covered landscape and trees are also nice. This wasn’t my first time in a camping car. That’s right. It boosted my confidence. Even though the winter roads in Hokkaido were scary, I feel like I’ve become quite familiar with the winter road conditions in Hokkaido. Yes, I’ve experienced various patterns with snow-covered roads.
Following the speed limit and driving safely is the best, after all. As long as you avoid sudden steering, braking, and acceleration, it’s not scary at all. There were scary moments, though. Certainly. But I think that amount of fear is just right. It’s good to have a bit of fear.
The left side is incredibly beautiful. The untouched snow footprint is incredibly beautiful. It’s beautiful no matter how many times you see it. The speed limit is now 70 km/h. It’s a single lane, so even if a car comes from behind, try not to rush.
“Just because it’s 70 km/h,” let’s proceed with that feeling. We researched the snowy road conditions thoroughly before coming to Hokkaido. Yeah, you did thorough research. Road conditions, information on road closures, and such. Black ice is often found, you know. There seem to be different types of black ice.
There are compacted black ice, black ice, and mirror black ice. The one we are familiar with is compacted black ice. This is when the snow on the road is compressed by various vehicles, creating a hard and smooth surface.
Among ice, it’s relatively easy to drive on, but it seems to become even more slippery when it rains or gets wet. Just thinking about it is scary. So, be careful when the snow falls, and compacted black ice becomes invisible. The bottom is compacted black ice.
They say you should pay attention to black ice. This is where the road is covered with thin ice, and you may not realize whether it’s ice or the ground. Is it the ground or is it ice? If you don’t notice black ice and step on the brake, it can get slippery.
But I feel like we didn’t encounter black ice on this trip. That’s what I think. Maybe I just didn’t notice because I wasn’t really speeding. By the way, they say that black ice is more likely to occur at night or early in the morning.
You have to be careful because it forms when the wet road freezes. The one you really have to watch out for is mirror black ice. It tends to occur in places with a lot of traffic or just before intersections where people often hit the brakes. It’s polished to make it slippery.
It’s called mirror black ice because it becomes so shiny that it reflects the sun and car lights. Intersections are the worst. Accidents often happen here. There’s also the possibility of secondary and tertiary disasters.
But in the end, when you look up how to prevent these things, every site says to follow the speed limit and avoid sudden braking, acceleration, and steering. Brake gently, right? Gear change, right? Put it in second or L. I never thought I could drive a camper. I’ve become quite good!
It’s so much fun having the steering wheel below. Moco’s steering wheel is a bit higher. It might make your shoulders stiff. But having it below makes that shoulder stiffness much better. Once you realize the goodness of campers, you’ll want one. Really want one.
Until now, it felt like a car in a different world with a high threshold. Now it feels closer and makes me happy. I’m glad I realized the goodness of campers. In a little while, a special phenomenon will occur. What!? What’s starting to happen? I’m currently driving at around 64-65 km/h.
By the way, the phenomenon that will occur is this. Like this, everyone says, “Let’s pass only that camper!” and overtakes. They absolutely want to overtake only this camper in this passing lane. They hurry up to pass. And I’m slowing down a bit at this point. To let everyone overtake.
In Hokkaido, there’s basically one lane, and the overtaking lane is very short. So, if you drive at the speed limit, no one lets you pass, so I’m slowing down a bit. I’m sorry. I’m sorry, but it’s quite important for both of us. Being behind also makes me feel uneasy, sorry, and concerned.
I think it’s quite stressful for the driver behind. Some people might be in a hurry too. It’s appreciated; this phenomenon happens every time. But we are driving at the speed limit. It’s not like we’re driving slow. By the way, the scariest situation in Hokkaido winter is called a “whiteout.” That’s right.
I haven’t experienced it yet. I’m really glad I didn’t experience it on this trip to Hokkaido. During a whiteout, everything becomes completely white. I don’t know if it’s a blizzard or strong winds blowing the snow. The visibility becomes so poor that you can’t see in front of you.
In such a situation, if you can, turn on the hazard lights and pull over to the shoulder immediately. If you don’t, serious accidents are likely to occur. It’s life-threatening. Moreover, when a whiteout lasts for a long time, cars get buried in the snow more and more. Scary!
During a whiteout, that’s how it is. There’s a possibility of being trapped inside the car. In such cases, it’s essential to ensure that exhaust gas doesn’t fill the car. Go to the back and clear the exhaust pipe so that snow doesn’t accumulate, which is an important task.
It must be challenging, especially in the cold. You really wouldn’t want to encounter that. When I decided to rent a campervan this time, I thought it would be terrifying, especially the risk of overturning. I heard stories from acquaintances about campervans overturning for no apparent reason. They mentioned having heard such stories, didn’t they?
You often see that on YouTube. I wonder if it’s true. But campervans are apparently more prone to overturning compared to regular cars. Because of their large size. They directly face the force of the wind. If you speed around curves like this, the center of gravity may shift, causing the vehicle to tip over.
So, it’s best not to drive too fast. In the end, safety is crucial. I think it’s safe as long as you don’t exceed the speed limit. If it topples over without speeding, that’s something else. Whether it’s a flaw in the vehicle or not, who knows.
A car that falls over for such reasons should never be released by the manufacturer, definitely. So, as long as you don’t drive too fast, it should be fine. Finally, the exit. Good! Good job. Anyway, well done on the highway. How was the highway?
Places like Okotanpe and Minamifurano, where it’s snowing, are still scary. Other than that, I think it went relatively smoothly. Yeah, it’s warmer here, so there’s no snow. True, they did say there’s less snow this year. It’s nerve-wracking. The city is tense. I definitely don’t want to mess up at the very end.
Ironically, this is the most nervous part. Finally! Be careful, it’s the very last… It’s genuinely nerve-wracking. This is the most challenging part now. (Laughs) Good job! I’m seriously tired. Mental fatigue is intense. Ahhhh! Safe! We finished without any accidents! Reluctant… It was really great. Mr. Taira: “Please come again.” I really want to.
Mr. Taira: “The staff is looking forward to it.” Thank you. Thank you very much for your courteous service. We’ll definitely go. We’ll come to see you again. Thank you very much! We had a comfortable road trip. We’ve returned to New Chitose Airport. It’s great that they can take us all the way here.
Since it comes with a pick-up service. They even pay for the taxi to and from the destination. Having that is nice. Especially when the journey so far has been tiring. Uh-oh, the flight is delayed. Uh-oh, this is… The last train is at 11:21.
Will we make it or not, right on the edge. It’s over, Kozu. The last train is at 11:21, and… I thought of taking the train to at least somewhere about 30 minutes from home… But that train departs at 11:55.
We’re at the second terminal of Kansai Airport, and from here, we need to take a bus to get to the station. Today’s business has concluded. By the way, our luggage is the very last. We weren’t waiting; it truly was the last one. For some reason, only the two of us couldn’t get on.
Has that ever happened? I think we could have definitely gotten on. We were told, “You can’t get on anymore!” Has that ever happened? It seems like we could have gotten on. We walked a lot today to Taushubetsu. What should we do? We have to find a hotel. Or maybe sleep outside… It’s tough.
Really, it’s the last. No one else is getting on. Why couldn’t we get on? Do you think we could have definitely gotten on? Because it’s the last, let me say it: we could have definitely gotten on! It feels like harassment! Should we go check the station? Let’s go check the station.
The shutters are closed. Crossing the bridge at Kansai Airport and going to the town by taxi normally costs thousands of yen. And on top of hotel expenses, taking a taxi… Everyone is being drawn in here. This used to be a free nap space. But it seems to have disappeared. Doing business.
Dealing with such refugees. Good bait. What should we do? Seriously, what should we do? What happened? Amazing! Today is fully booked. It must be. It’s the worst. Because it’s Friday. People flying first thing in the morning tomorrow can stay here. It’s easy. It’s 12:44.
Now, two people over 30 are going to eat beef bowl. Let’s eat. Good job, Kamu-chan! Finally, we can relax. Thank you. Sorry, Kozu is on the yoga mat. Everyone, Chibobo is still on hold. Good night. Good morning. The first train is about to depart.
We want to catch the first train that departs shortly. It was tough. It was exhausting, Kozu. It was fun! Exciting, right? We’ve safely returned to Moco, and now, I’d like to share our impressions of this first-time camping car trip. Actually driving a camping car was incredibly easy.
It was totally different from what I expected. Completely different. It was my first time driving anything larger than Moco, but it was easy. That’s really the key point. We weren’t waiting; it truly was the last one. For some reason, only the two of us couldn’t get on. Has that ever happened?

That’s really the key point. There were some unstable moments due to the wind, but… If you focus on safe driving and follow the rules, even women can drive. So, in summary, I highly recommend a camping car rental trip! I want to do it again. I really got into it.
Considering that you only pay for a hotel and rental car once, it’s cheap. You can sleep anywhere. Even if you have small children, you can stop and let them sleep in the back when they get tired. The camping car was really great. I think it’s clearly conveyed to everyone.
I have one big goal now. To become a camping car ambassador! First, I have to become a camping car owner. Let’s do our best. Dream big. Let’s shape various things. Thank you for watching until the end of our winter trip to Hokkaido. Following Hokkaido, we are currently on another adventurous trip.
We’ll continue to share our experiences, so please look forward to it. If you enjoyed this video, please subscribe, comment, and give it a thumbs up. See you in the next video. Goodbye! Goodbye! Our impromptu camping car trip in Hokkaido has come to an end.
Let me introduce the places we visited and the expenses! It cost 213,798 yen for 5 nights and 6 days. The camping car rental cost was 106,700 yen.

Great video ❤
Great review.😍
