I’m Rui Natsumi, a composer.I’m a composer who mainly creates soundtracks and BGM for anime, dramas, and games. If you leave comments like, “How did you get into music full-time?” or ` `What kind of background did you have?” I haven’t made a video of it because I thought people wouldn’t be interested
Because it’s a pretty personal topic, but if you’re interested, why don’t you listen to the story ? That’s what I’m talking about because I’m thinking of making it my goal to live without holding back this year ! I would be happy if you could watch it till the end, please!
It may be a little sudden, but today I’m going to talk about it while boiling the strings of a bass . There is an urban legend that says that if you boil the strings of a deteriorated bass, they will come back to life . Lastly, I will also include a verification sound source.
First of all, I am a high school student specializing in music. I didn’t go to a music college, I graduated from a regular 4-year technical college. As for musical instruments, I’ve been playing the piano since I was 4 years old, but I couldn’t practice the difficult instrument with 88 keys every day. Well,
There are probably fewer people who liked piano lessons when they were children, right? What do you think about people who took piano lessons when they were children? Now that I think about it, I’m not very good at playing the piano, but I’m glad I finally learned how to play the piano. That’s why
I wasn’t able to practice the piano very well, but because of my mother’s influence, I had the opportunity to learn about Zeppelin and BonJovi when I was in elementary school, and that was truly a thunderous experience. It was as if I had been hit by something, and I was shocked to hear
That there is such cool music out there! ? I wanted to play rock music more than classical music. My favorite genre of music wasn’t the environment I grew up in, but it was probably something I was born with. That’s
Why I decided to go to a high school that had a light music club, and in fact there was a light music club. When I went to high school , I was thinking of forming a band like the Guns.I’m a high school girl.I’m Japanese, but
I played the guitar for three years in high school, and I was the vocalist in a band where guitarists stood out in music from the 80s and 90s, like BonJovi. The thing that stands out next to me is the guitar, and the main thing is the sound, so I chose the guitar. My
Parents and I went to the musical instrument town in Ochanomizu, Tokyo, and they bought me a red Yamaha guitar that was sitting at Shimokura Musical Instruments, which cost about 40,000 yen. Around this time , I probably loved music with the purest feelings. At
Around 1am, when my parents were asleep, I would come down to the living room and watch Space Shower TV and MTV, and MTV would forever play music videos of Western music. There are so many cool bands in the world ! ! I was hooked on Megadeath, Rage Against the Machine
Limp Bizkit, Marilyn Manson, and other compulsory subjects, but I was born a little too late after watching the DVD of Bonjovi’s 1990 Tokyo Dome performance. ! I thought that Bonjovi was the best in its heyday, and by the way, my friends around me were listening to RADWIMPS and
Stuff like that, but their high school was a preparatory school, so everyone was going to college. I thought it was a story about people from a different world, so that wasn’t an option, so I enrolled in a four-year technical university.I liked computers and
Was still better at physics than chemistry, so I took up programming. I entered the department I wanted to study in. Why did I choose to go to an engineering college?
I thought that a smart woman who was good at physics and was good at physics, like Ai Haibara from Conan (Japanese anime), was cool. Conan’s “Countdown to Heaven” There’s a movie called Ai- chan, and there’s a scene where Ai-chan jumps from building to building in a car, and the distance between
The buildings is 60 meters, and the difference in height from the next building is 20 meters. The formula to calculate the time it takes to fall 20 meters is If g is gravitational acceleration, then it’s 2.05 seconds. They say things like that, but
When they were kids they were really cool! That’s what I thought. Also, it’s because I still had better grades in math than in Japanese.Since then, I’ve had a lot of dreamy moments. There ‘s a gap of several months between graduating from high school and entering university .
I’m sure there are people who join the light music club because they want to form a band outside of their time , but the number of people who form a band outside of the light music club is amazing! It’s like, ` `
That girl has an outside band and seems to be doing a lot of live shows.” It’s amazing! That’s how I wanted to form a band with people I didn’t know, so I was wondering how I could form a band with people I didn’t know. When I was
About 19 years old, I searched for members and found a member recruitment site called With9.When people of my generation hear about With9, they probably feel nostalgic, but it’s looking for members who can post member recruitment articles. Since it was a site, it was pretty common to look for members. When I
Looked at the recruitment site, I found that there were a lot more people who were trying to become professionals than I expected due to culture shock. There were so many people who were willing to step into such a risky endeavor. I was shocked to find out that it exists and
I definitely want to try it myself! That’s what I thought, because I still haven’t given up on my dream of forming a band like BonJovi, so when I read that with9 article, I searched to see if there were any people in
My hometown who were aiming to become professionals and were playing the same genre of music that I liked, and Hide… There are bands with names like DIR EN GRAY, Michael Schenker KoЯn, LUNA SEA, and Slipknot that they call me, right? That’s what I thought, so I applied.
When I joined, it was a visual kei band, but they weren’t looking for guitar players, but they said they were looking for bass. I had never played bass at that point, but if I could play guitar, I could play bass. That’s what I thought when I applied. Teenagers are generally mentally strong, so
Even if they get yelled at, some of you may have thought that it’s okay to just go home, right? This band, like the unbelievable behavior of teenagers, became more and more visual-kei, and eventually started appearing at many visual-kei live houses in Tokyo, such as Meguro Rokumeikan, Shinjuku Holiday, and the Takadanobaba area
. I love the members, but for me it’s just a black history. White feathers at Tokyu Hands? I bought some sort of wings that I could carry on my back, and I put blood glue on them and carried them on my back.I played bass
While wearing angel wings on my back, like an angel who was about to become a fallen angel, so I didn’t really worry about it, because the wings of my senses would shift to the side. I was doing some strange things . Well, there were a lot of eccentricities.
But other people were also carrying school bags on their backs, so it was completely normal. I went to college with those bloody feathers. The other day I went to my parents’ house. When I was cleaning it up, I found a feather covered in blood and
Said, “It’s embarrassing to throw this in the garbage.” I was in a band and also went to university. Eventually, I started to notice that the band was taking a different direction. When you meet up on a recruitment site, you don’t get introduced by friends, you get people with really random values,
Like at a local public junior high school. Well, we ended up disbanding. At that time, we didn’t have any regrets at all, and we still wanted to be a popular band, so we immediately formed an all-girl band. I thought it would be easier to sell as an all-girl band. Even though we
Formed a visual kei band. As I said, the members of Visual Kei are basically men and the audience are women, so when there was a woman like me among the members, I felt a little jealous and didn’t feel very comfortable in this band . When it started selling well,
I was a little worried that I might be excluded. The members are kind and wouldn’t say that, but I thought the producers would probably say something like, “Maybe it would be better without this girl.” Isn’t there something like “It’ll sell!” ?
I was always worried that I was going to be cut off, so I decided to start an all-girl band. The all-girl band had a lot of fights and stuff, but it was really fun.I went to university, and I was in the studio twice a week, and had about two live shows a month.
That’s why I meet the members about 10 or 12 times a month. It has a bit of an all-girls’ high school atmosphere, and it’s a lot of fun.It ‘s nice to know the good and bad things about the members. We’re like friends like that.
It’s really hard to be in a band, but it’s a lot of fun.It ‘s pretty sad that none of the members at that time are continuing to make music, but the girl band is also going to Budokan! I’ve been doing
It for about a year and a half, including the preparation period when my parents and I were really nervous, and it’s fine to be a band member and a university student, but there comes a time when I have to think about it, and it’s time to start looking for a job . right!
When I was job-hunting, it was extremely difficult to find a job.I don’t know if everyone reads novels, but there is a novel by Ryo Asai that won the Naoki Prize. I ‘m just a job-hunting student who makes my own business cards and gives them to companies.I’ve multiplied my flimsy background, like
I did this kind of volunteer work or studied abroad and learned this kind of thing. It felt like they were trying their best to promote themselves as if they had done something amazing, but everyone was really desperate. There were seniors and people who were job seekers, and there was such an atmosphere, so
I thought that if I didn’t start job hunting, I would be in trouble . But I thought I couldn’t give anything back to the band unless I was in the music field, so I applied to all the instrument stores that were recruiting.I think I’m a bit of a social misfit, but
I was really good at interviews. At that time, it was difficult to get a job, so there were about 7 interviews, pressure interviews, reverse interviews, and so on.For example, you could compare yourself to a vegetable to appeal to people. here you are! If someone suddenly says something like
, “I think it’s a cabbage,” people will immediately dismiss you if you stutter, so I say something like “I think it’s a cabbage.” As you talk, think about where you want to land. The fruit is big and you can enjoy it as many times
As you want. The more you go inside, the new you will emerge! When I did that, I was asked, “Cabbage doesn’t have a core, but what’s the point?” What was that time? Now that I think about it, I think it’s kind of funny, but I was good at
Interviews, and I think I probably passed every one I went to at a musical instrument shop.I don’t have to start any actual work anymore, so I want to participate in competitive interviews and things like that.I passed. I got a job at a musical instrument store where
The employees seemed to like rock music the most, and the music sounded like light music. But it turned out to be a mistake. In the end, I quit after about 7 months, and I caused a lot of trouble for a lot of people, but
It was a mistake. I like being in a band and composing songs, and I like selling instruments, which are completely different things. Broadly speaking, they’re all the same music, but they’re completely different skills.
I read a book the other day called “How to Find the Kindest Thing You Want to Do in the World” written by Mr. Yagi, which sold about 300,000 copies. He said that he sold soccer equipment because he loves playing soccer. It was written that you should definitely avoid working at a store that
Sells soccer equipment. In short, the skills needed to sell soccer equipment are customer service, product knowledge, and since it’s a retail store, you need to be able to calculate detailed numbers and take inventory. It’s important that you’re good at detailed work and that you like it.There’s
Not even an ounce of skill required to play soccer. In the same way, if you were a full-time employee at a music company, you’d probably find it fun and useful. I was seriously naive and my second point of failure was that
It was impossible for me to balance being a professional band and working as a full-time employee. My schedules didn’t match up with everyone else’s, so I had to practice late at night a lot. I work from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., then
Go to the studio from 11 p.m. to 4 a.m., wait for the first train, then stay at a manga cafe near my office, take a nap for about an hour, and take a bath. I also went to work once a week and used my free time to compose music and practice, and
My weight increased to around 38 kg and I started to feel sick.If you’re a employed person, you’ll understand. I think there are so many things that you have to study in your first year as a full-time employee , but even that is holding you back. You don’t have enough product knowledge, and
There are so many things to remember all at once.At the music store where I was, full-time employees are responsible for sales. Rankings are shown, and it ‘s pretty serious because you know what rank a new employee ranks in. If it were true, you’d have to put 100% of your effort into it or
You wouldn’t be able to keep up, but you stay up all night at work and make even more mistakes. I felt like I was causing trouble for the band and the company, so I quit after 7 months. It was really hard to quit.Doesn’t it feel like quitting is more difficult than joining anything?
I had a lot of trouble with my parents, and after a lot of convincing, I decided to quit my job and start a band as a part-time worker. When I quit, I only had about 1/100 of the thinking power I have now, so I did it! !
I’m going to focus on the band from now on ! That’s what I thought, but then something happened. It’s really hard to be in a band for a long time. I get into fights with other members, and when people first see me, people often say that I’m gentle and quiet, but I
Play the piano. That’s right. It’s not like that. When someone says something unpleasant, it’s like that! Instead of thinking, I end up thinking, “What? This is it!” Besides, there were a lot of other weird things that happened, and even though we had decided to do a game tie-up, we ended up going on hiatus. Then
I … Are you unemployed ? I became a part-time worker with no dreams. If you want to hear what happens next, I would be happy if you could subscribe to the channel and wait. It turned out to be longer than I expected, so I’ll continue if there’s demand for
It.After this, I’ll talk about how I came to be able to make a living through music.Alright, I’m boiling some bass strings that have nothing to do with today’s story , but they’re old strings. I would like to do a verification video to see if it really comes back to life when boiled !
Here you go! Before boiling After boiling Conclusion! Don’t you all think it would have been better not to boil it ? New strings produce a lot of high notes, and the high notes gradually get lost, so I thought that boiling them would bring back the high notes, but
Instead, the high notes disappeared.I played them the same way. But for some reason, the volume is lower after boiling. It’s a shame.Bass strings are expensive , so I thought boiling them would be a pretty effective way to revive them , but from what I’ve heard, it’s probably better not to boil them. Well,
This is the conclusion !

New Jersey tour
