海に挟まれた線状都市/海界 日本海佐渡島 赤泊両津

A linear city sandwiched between the seas / Walk around the island village Sea of Japan Sado Island, Akadomari Ryotsu

Walk around the island village Sado Island Akadomari Ryotsu (Niigata Prefecture) Akadomari Walk around the village of Ryotsu Kaikai Walk around the village streets of Sado Island.

This time, we will walk through Akadomari, which flourished as a port town on the Kitamaebune and Honshu routes, on the east coast of Kosado (southern Sado Island), and Ryotsu, the largest city and gateway to Sado Island.

The fourth part of the Sado Island walk through the villages of the sea world starts from Akadomari. Honshu can be seen in the distance. In the Ainu language, the “red” in Akadomari means “water,” and “tomari” means “port.” Teradomari on the opposite coast of Honshu is also a port.

In the past, there was a sea route between Akadomari and Teradomari. I wonder if it’s gone now. The southern entrance to Akadomari town. I’ll walk from here. The townscape that starts from here continues for about 1 km to the northern part of the area, including Hokuyuki Sake Brewery. Is it a communal well?

Akadomari was once quite prosperous as a port town for Kitamae ships and a town for Matsumae merchants. The town of Akadomari is located on the east coast of Kosado, the southern part of Sado Island. It faces Honshu. The climate here

Is said to be extremely warm due to the hills blocking northerly winds and the Tsushima Warm Current flowing through the area. From this point on, the road became wider. This building has a gabled roof (the gable side of the roof faces the street).

This building has a gabled flat roof (the gable side of the roof does not face the street). The townscape is a mixture of Tsumiri and Hirairi. And here is a strange house. Is it a western-style entrance? It’s probably the entrance. This building is a barber shop.

Many colors and materials are used on the side walls. And the third floor, which is probably an addition, cantilevers out from the roof. cool. A distinctive building came into view at the ice stop on the street. There is an observation deck on top of the house. It’s a gazebo.

The street curves right in front of this house. Therefore, you can clearly see the north-south street from inside the gazebo, and you can also see the gazebo clearly from the street. The townscape around here is the best attraction. A Western-style townhouse made of clapboard.

The main house and storehouse of a townhouse are wrapped in clapboard with pressed edges. The former Tanabe family residence has a Western-style design with a gazebo on the roof. What is this building at the back of the site? Zashikikura? I came to Hokuyuki Sake Brewery. The Japanese sake “Hokuyuki” is delicious. Hello. welcome.

I bought it! Get a bird’s-eye view of the townscape of Akadomari from the Shironoyama Park observation deck. I came to Ryotsu, the largest town on Sado Island. This is a town built on a sandbank between the Sea of Japan and Lake Kamo (a saltwater lake). Lake Kamo is on the left.

The other side is the Sea of Japan. There’s a road at the highest point of the sandbar, and I think this is the oldest town, but there’s also a road on each side of it, so it feels like a town of two and three. Is that so?

The Ryotsu Minato Post Office is located here, so I guess this is the center of the Minato district. Minato 2-chome. Now, let’s continue walking north from here. About the origin of the name Ryotsu. “Tsu” means port, so “Ryotsu” means two ports.

It is said that the area was called Ryotsu because there was a port in each area, with the Ishi area on the north side and the Minato area on the south side. This is a vacant lot, but it is a strip-shaped site. The land slopes down towards Lake Kamo.

It’s not a straight road. It is slightly curved. It gives a sense of depth to the townscape. The old road that runs through the highest point of the sandbar joins the modern main road here. Then, if you go east from here, you will find the ferry terminal for Niigata Port.

What’s interesting is this block on the left. This is quite interesting. I’m going to walk there from now on. This is Lake Kamo. This is what the coastline facing Lake Kamo looks like. The strip-shaped townhouse site extends toward Lake Kamo, and what looks like a jetty sticks out.

This is the front side of the buildings as seen from the Kamo Lake side. The size of the house is probably 3 rooms. I think this house has a frontage of 2 and a half rooms. This is Lake Kamo. The road closest to the coastline.

The road parallel to the coastline draws an arc, so the site is fan-shaped. Can you see that the buildings next to each other are aligned (not parallel)? If you look at the eave lines, you can see that they are crackling.

Yeah, it’s like a boathouse. The first floor is used as a parking lot. Then they came between a landmass with two ports called Ryotsu. This waterway connects Lake Kamo to the Sea of Japan. Now, let’s cross this Kamo Lake Bridge and go to the Ebisu district on the other side.

When you cross the bridge, you’ll see a gate over there. A gate with KIRIN written on it. Well, it’s definitely a restaurant district at night. I’m looking forward to walking. Why is it that nighttime restaurant districts are always located near water? Near a river, a port, or a lake.

That’s the bridge we just crossed from the Minato area. This is Minatohonmachi shopping street. There is a gate so it is a restaurant area at night. Lake Kamo. It has the atmosphere of a restaurant district at night. Why are snacks Western-style? Well, the name “snack” suggests that it’s Western-style. They’re lined up beautifully.

It looks like a cake, right? Decipher construction. The house in the middle has two tiers of beams. The houses are completely attached to each other. The roofs will overlap. The building on the right has a lower roof than the building on the left, and the walls stick out to the front.

After the house on the left is completed, it is difficult to build the house on the right. So I think the right side is the old house and the left side is the new house.

If you think about it that way, does it mean that the house on the right is older than the house in the middle? Would you like to go to Lake Kamo? This is the back side of the cake-like houses we saw earlier.

The areas where no grass grows are the remains of buildings that once stood. The attached buildings are lined up facing the port. what’s this! feel ill! Who are you. came out! Snack collection. Oh, I can escape! Yurakugai. There are traces of a gate. Lakeside inn Yoshidaya. This is a large open hotel.

There are Ryotsu Bridge, Kamoko Bridge, and Ryotsu Ohashi Bridge in the middle, but the south side of this waterway is the Minato district, and the north side is the Ishi district. I started walking from this “Minato Park” place. This path is the highest point on the sandbar.

Coming north, this area seemed to jut out into Lake Kamo. I crossed the Kamo Lake Bridge. Then there was a gate and a restaurant area at night. At the end of the restaurant street is Yoshidaya, which used to be a hot spring town called Kamo Lake Onsen.

The image is that there is a red light district somewhere, and there is a drinking district around it. Kamo Lake Onsen Oyado Kagetsu. I wonder if it’s open for business? Looks like it’s not open. I went bankrupt. Ebisu Shrine. The coronavirus epidemic is over.

The north gate has a picture of a Japanese ibis. When it comes to Yuri, I get excited about reporting. Was funny. Now, let’s finally walk back to this shopping street. Ishihonmachi shopping street. There is an arcade on the sidewalk.

Niigata is famous for its “Gangi” arcades on sidewalks that block the snow, but I guess it doesn’t snow that much in Sado. There are old townhouses lined up beyond the arcade. There is a structure of digits. There are also three old townhouses lined up here. Entrance to the restaurant area at night.

Cross Ryotsu Bridge to the Minato area. I returned to the Minato area. How did you like the Sado Island edition of the Sado Kisen ferry that connects Niigata Port and Ryotsu Port, walking through the maritime village? This time, I walked through several villages along the coastline of Sado Island, and the

Common impression I got was that there were many traditional wooden buildings. I think it is a characteristic of Sado Island’s village townscapes that you can see a very unified townscape, regardless of whether the buildings are old or new . See you next time, somewhere in the seaside village. bye bye! Akadomari Ryotsu

季節は秋口ですか?洋風の家はお医者さんかな?継ぎ足しの家良いですね。旧道は分かりますね。間口が狭いのが面白い。
